PH,
The gray wing is the FX's, its a bit smaller than the CC, and the CCÂ’s still smaller than my "to 1/24 scale" photocopies of the X that shows the wing size wise as best as possible with the pics I have. I do have to remind you that the FX intake in the last picture shows just how far off "scale" that piece is, and I still need to modify the "wing block" under the intake to put in the missing facet. Also, remember too that I stretched my fuse by quite a bit, and also "wedged" the 2 halves toward the front to "beef it up" and so my quasi maxi-brute nose would fit.
Not to rain on your parade, but it was a bit of work and I'm nowhere near "done". It is a * REALLY * modified FX at this point, so please keep that in mind when comparing them all. I wish I had a "virgin" FX to shoot next to all three, but I'm still tying my funds up on kits for future projects (Scored a 1/25 centurion just last week that could have brought me 3 FX's, but its all about priorities and getting things when you can for the best price possible). Also, the rear butt plate is the most telling to me as far as FX "weakness" shape and size wise, it clearly shows how the after-cockpit part of the fuse is way too thin, not to shape, etc. Just keep all this in mind if you try to tackle this at a later date.
Skyler,
I you go into it with that attitude,"This gives me a whole new appreciation for the FX Xwing, and while it wont be 100%, I feel it can be done.."
and have fun, at worst you'll pick up some new skills you can use on the NEXT X you work on (TRUST me, like the rest of this hobby, they're addictive!) Like above, it’s all about what you want. If you want a true studio scale, this isn't for you. But, if you want something you can "bang out", have a big ass X, and be proud of, then give this a go. Let me know if you need anymore help, photos etc. A bit of advice is to try and grab what pre-made details you can, such as Franks kit (see the old X thread) as it'd put you on a damn good path. Note that the tan parts on my FX are mostly from that source, and were “cast offs” that Frank didn’t want to sell as part of his kit because they didn’t meet his very high standards and I picked up for probably the cost of his resin alone, and I’m pretty sure that boat has sailed long ago, but you could drop him a line and see if he’s got anything like that laying around still. And no, my FC master kit is not for sale, it’s hanging out in the same box as my Maxi and my future "ultimate X" project. FYI, original MSRP on those master kits was only a little less than the price the reborn CC is now selling for . . . so good luck finding someone wanting to part with them for a “fire sale” price, but they ARE worth it.
Again, good luck
Ryan
