RED ALERT Lost 3 ft TOS Enterprise found????

Thanks for the head's up!

I will be sure to go out and grab these pics. And maybe a slide or two.

Just watched your latest, very interesting. So was the timing of those slides being offered on EBay in relation to your BHI / Multiplex hologram reveal just a remarkable coincidence?

Good question!!

The discovery of those slides gave me a kick in the pants to finish up what I was working on. I had originally expected to do a reveal this coming Friday. But after the slides showed up, I pushed the timeline up.

And thanks for that head's up. I really thought that the film would never be found. So I had the hologram, and the people involved. But the slides gave me the last independent connection between Abel-Multiplex-BHI. It even neatly connected why both the Jennings daughter and the Hollingsworth daughter told the same story independently of each other since they were looking back to the middle from opposite ends.

I decided to move forward with just the physical chain of custody, since that answered the only "real" question that was unanswered all these years. I'll do the family and people story in the near future as well.

The shocking thing to me at this stage is that there are several people who are now saying they knew the entire connection between Abel-Multiplex-BHI and even had knowledge or possession of copies of the film.

As someone whose spent the better part of the past year and a half digging into this from a starting position of zero, I now have confirmed statements from Susan Sackett that she was completely unaware of the film and its purpose. And then I have folks saying that they did have knowledge of it.

So from my point of view, I see either deliberate mis-information, or a deliberate attempt to conceal the connection and film. Let's face it; there's a lot of money hanging in the balance on this whole story. So I suspect we've got clear indicators that the former or the latter is deliberate. And that sounds like someone who was planning a commercial reveal.

So ironically, I suspect that my "drop" has sent them into reactive mode. I know what is currently being said under oath in the current lawsuit, and it's not matching with what people are saying concerning knowledge prior to Oct 31st of last year. But we're going to have to wait until the depositions are released by the courts before I can discuss any specifics on it.

As such, I've already chosen that I wouldn't make any comments on any other internet forum other than this one. The folks I've met here at things like Wonderfest (who had no idea of who I was or what I do on Youtube) gave me faith that there are safe harbours on the internet for people not wanting to get attacked at every turn for original thinking.

Interesting, and makes one wonder what other info or materials are out there / may continue to come to light. Regardless it’s great that so much of the story is now a matter of record.

Not sure if I understood a response you made to a comment to your video, but it sounded like you were saying you thought the model may have been originally requested for the express purpose of making the hologram, but if so, why would that request have occurred so far in advance of the TMP premier event the hologram was said to be made for?

The request timing may explain why no one remembered it as time went on. We know that it was given to Abel's folks. And that it ended up at at Hololabs in the end.

So that means that the request had to have come in before Abel was shown the door in Feb 79. And I'm not entirely sure how long the process was to go from submission to delivery on the hologram itself.

The CFI find ties into 1978 as well for the development of the film for Multiplex. So my guess is that it was passed off sometime in Q4 of 1978.

When everything went bust in Feb, it obscured what happened to the request. I find it ironic that the Katzenberg letter was written in late 79. That means it coincided with the movie release. It may have been in preparation for the release that Gene discovered it had not been returned.

In fact, my personal belief is the the hologram never was actually delivered back to anyone. This fits the reputation we now know that BHI had for not returning items at the end of their existance. I guess hind site is 20/20 after all. lol.

Great sleuthing, Jim, thank you for joining us!

Please do be careful not to refer to motion picture film as "video" as you did twice in the latest video. I spare people my pedantry when this happens in casual conversation or even in posted videos, but under these circumstances of documentation and recording for posterity, where minor details are turning out to be vital links in a chain, being precise is very important.

Again, thanks for the detective work, this has been a fascinating ride!

Hi Jay,

Thanks for the tip. You are absolutely 100% correct. It was an unfortunate choice of vague wording, looking back on it. If anything, I always like to believe I'm doing a good job of documenting something as I go through these things. But in many ways, I am still closer to Cousteau than to Columbo. lol.

There are other materials out there. I've had various rolls of film from this sequence (and related ones) for many months and have been in communication with the authentication team. The film tells an interesting, more complex story. I'm excited to reveal more details soon so stay tuned!

Great to have you aboard, David (y)

I look forward to hearing about your discoveries.

Love your book, BTW.

Amazing book!

So, I watched the latest video and got caught up. Makes perfect sense.

I guess the whole Joe Jennings thing was a red herring, then?

Well, phooey…that would have allowed back-engineering

Other helps

Your photographs show the droop of the nacelles long before the discovery of the model in storage (and the Pine Sol incident).

Some notes.. I would like to see on your YouTube channel…one page of TMoST has a secondary hull with no sphere that almost looks like Musk’s Starship:)

Also—there may be fanzines with ship art before FJ tech manuals got folks used to modularity…I have often wondered what ships described in novels would look like—messy can turn text into models.

If you're wanting to 3D print the model, I think you might be able to do it from the film. Technically, the vertical information is a little sparse, relative to the horizontal information, but it's still there. I had my film telecined in 4K so it has some detail.

Way cool. As others have said, your film restoration efforts are appreciated.

So that film sequence is an example of a clue that was out there but not fully recognized for what it was? Glad Jim was able to put it into context of the model's history. The hologram angle was actually noted in this thread just a few days after the model turned up (see posts 210 and 215), pearls mixed in with the yukking about pine-sol:

I have to wonder if the people who were hired to make the hologram back in the late 70s even fully appreciated the significance of the model, or if they thought it was just "something made by some guy", like the gentlemen who found it last year initially did. Maybe that was the inevitable result of one too many "hand offs". We may never know. Quite the tale, regardless.

“So, what did Paramount need with a holographic starship?”

I see what you did, there ;)
