Recasting a Sci-Fi Icon; The Classic Star Trek Communicator

buffing will hit the tops of the texture, but not the recesses, giving it a two tone type look. Semi flat will give it a uniform look all around.

I just finished up one of these kits, it was a blast to build. I had to go with the Making of Star Trek Comm first.
Forgive the photos, I need to re-shoot these outside in day light to really do the kit justice.

I did my buildup with a bit of English (distressed) :rolleyes

Wow!!! That new B&W shot actually had me fooled for a minute!
Great job Mike!

BTW, for those of you who have been contacting me asking
if I can do builds for you, right now I am way too busy.
However, I know Mike here (phez) does them for people, and
he's great! Just an "FYI." ;)

That just looks outstanding!! I have both the phaser and the communicator kits sitting on my workbench, trying to decide which one to start first. I think your pics decided for me! Gonna start on the communicator!

What kind of stop watch did you use?

I don't even know, I never looked and it's now glued in and covered up. I got it off ebay, typed in the search window "Vintage Swiss 7 jewel stopwatch". It looks just like the type used in Alpha with one exception, it has the second knob to reset the timer to zero. So when you start and stop the watch with the other knob it's not spinning the Moire around a break-neck speeds! Sorry I can't answer your question about the brand!

I found a picture of it before I covered it. The brand name is SPI 7 Jewel.

Came out looking awesome! How did you connect the moire to the stop watch??

Hi Replicator1701

I removed the minute counter hand and that small oblong assembly is sits on. I kept the second counter but trimmed it back a bit. I then machined up 3/8 " thick by 1/2 inch plastic spacer that I glued directly to the second arm and then attached the bottom moire to that.
