Thought i would share some joy and show you my paint process for my first MC/FAC Rogue One X-Wing helmet.
I started with a blank slate white helmet. I went through about 10 to 12 design ideas finished with copic marker on paper and settled on a personal look that has a little japanese flavor and also harkens back to the good old F-14 Tomcat days but still a Star Wars look. I wanted to create one that is a tribute to Blue Squadron, so the color scheme sticks with blue.

I started with a very light wet sanding and then an olive green matte coat for the base. This is because all the helmets in the OT were based on the military APH-6 and those start out as olive drab then are either taped or painted, so i wanted my weathering and scratches to go back to the base olive color.
After the olive color i added masking liquid in areas and let that dry.

More to come!

The next step was to re-surface the helmet white so i added a couple layers of krylon white followed by a light mist of off-white, heavier in areas of more sunlight and then strip the masking fluid so we had our first indication of chipping and wear.
i did chipping at this stage so i didnt think about the design and chip around things.. i wanted to chip and let the wear fall where it wanted to.

next will be taping.

thanks! I am going to be adding another one here when the weather turns warm. a little less invasive and somewhat less for weathering but coming soon.
Im currently doing a Jaina Solo helmet for my wife, but she wants a slight sparkle to it...
well that goes against my better judgment of being realistic, but i want her to be somewhat happy so ill be adding a little
flare to the design on this one.. i guess that means i will never be able to wear it.
And trying to come up with a nice blend of weathered and sparkle.. that will be a new one for me.
stay tuned!
