Rebel Transport scratchbuild.

Re: A storm is coming!

Beautiful!!. Your'e going to be a busy boy casting all these puppies, how many for each transport dude?.
These will be just the icing on the cake knowing your casting skills!.
I feel its terrific how some of the parts required are being out-sourced from around the globe and come together to make these outstanding models, that's true co-operation and this RT build and others for that matter will be as faithful to the actual prop!.

Re: A storm is coming!

I absolutely agree Stu! And, I got my bells yesterday. They're too pretty to paint, I fear! I'm going to have a real tough time painting and weathering those other bits you're working up for me...

Using scans from well known publications I simply imported and scaled these to real-world dimensions in CAD and drafted up a pod. Did the same thing for the RT engines. I'm not claiming that these are to the millimeter, but they are plenty close for us. The trick, the real artistry, came with those who took my 2D work and made it 3D. Kudos to Stu (and pop) and Richard!

As far as what the originals are? We have looked and haven't come across anything like the boxes. Doubt it's a kit part, more likely a found object if it's not scratched. I haven't checked out any concept drawings for the RT, but that may provide a clue about whether these are "found" or "custom"...

Re: A storm is coming!

Rich, that looks fantastic, very sharp, we boys owe you a large one lol.

Allan, i agree buddy, the cargo pods, for me, are scratchbuilt and cast IMO, its an Ease build, and that fella made nothing easy.....not like his namesake anyhoo :lol

The drawings you have made Allan are perfect, and the way Stu and Pop's turned them into a physical shape, splendid job all round, and i have to agree its unreal seeing several nations, working together, to make these replicas possible.

Well, hoping to get some work done this weekend, so ill post updates soon!

Re: A storm is coming!

Well, after quite some time losing my entire Mojo, i managed to find a tiny bit of it and get back to working on this bird.

Seems i take one step forward and two back lately with her lol, this is an entirely new tail, as i screwed the last one up cutting the engine flutes...arrgghh!

Ive detailed it fairly close the the prop, but the ref is a tad rough, so its nigh on impossible to make any finds in the tail, so its an embelished sortie of parts lol....shame is, the best work such as all the lovely plumbing and hoses i made, cant be seen....ho hum!

Re: A storm is coming!

That's incredible! I should have your pods ready soon, it's going to be cool to see this finished up, what a beauty.

Re: A storm is coming!

That is just lovely! :thumbsup

After more than a decade in this hobby, with very little work to show for it (other than some drawings, a few study models, and lots of research), I'm finally coming to my senses and starting to embrace the idea of making these replicas generally accurate in overall shape, while not sweating every little detail.

This approach could make the whole project not only more fun, but actually possible to complete in less than a 10 years. LOL :D

Re: A storm is coming!

Charles, so many things have held me back on this build, drive, skills and OBSESSING over stuff lol.
I will say, today, for the first time in a while, i had some fun just going on the fly on that tail piece, thanks for the words buddy.

Rich, sounds way cool buddy, i DO know your very busy, but adding those cargo boxes, what a treat, they look stunning....as usual!

Allan, cheers friend, wish you were still hard at her, im soooo alone on this one :lol, thanks for the call buddy, was a great surprise and as usual, a pleasure!

Mine is waiting just where I left off...at all the hard stuff that you've put right!

I'll be on this for awhile now, I'm afraid:

Re: A storm is coming!

Allan, if you're on to what I think you are, that's really weird timing. I got the urge to get back to work on that subject myself a few weeks ago. We should talk! ;) LOL :D

Re: A storm is coming!

LOL - very cool Allan. I have been amassing a lot of donor stuff for the Sandcrawler too, but good lord, I know what you mean about enthusiasm. I want to finish a few of these models I have in progress before I dig into yet another project. Charles, I know what you mean too - lots of piles of stuff, and nothing finished! And I agree - "hyper accuracy" is a noble pursuit, but it usually means you can never finish a model!

I have laid a lot of groundwork on the Blockade Runner, at the expense of other models I could have finished by now... and all I have to show for that is a bunch of Sterilite containers filled with donor kits, bah!!

Re: A storm is coming!

Lee, that is one fine looking rear end my friend lol!. What a pain to have to rebuild, but she looks just dandy dude!. I think youv'e got yer mojo back that's for sure!.

Stu

Re: A storm is coming!

Cheers Stu, as for the Mojo, well its kinda back lol, just havent been feeling the building love of late.

Charles, haha, yeah, its a little different to the Sandcrawler, but im sure you know by now what Allan is driving at with that Pegasus :lol

Ok well found some time this AM to tinker out some upper cowls, have to say, this is maybe one of the hardest areas on the model, so much to account for in profile, itll bake ya noodle for sure lol.

Basic cowls are now test fitted here, still some detailing to do, and ive a few gaps where they meet the hull, but the plating will allow me to "make good" around these!

Once these things are fully fitted, and the centre fin is done, i can plate up this darn rear end, looks a nasty job, so want to get right to it soon, then have some real fun on the model!

Re: A storm is coming!

Looks beautiful! It's so much closer with that lower engine area completed. I can see what you mean about wanting to plate over that seam.

Re: A storm is coming!

Scott the seam HAS to be plated over, id say only around 10% of the primary hull you see here is visible in the end, so man, thats a lot of plating :sick

Re: A storm is coming!

Looks great Lee. I'd like to do one of these myself, sometime around 2019.:)

Charles, nice to see you coming to your senses, mate!

Hey, has anyone tried to contact Ease and invite him around here?

Mike, Oz
