Re: A storm is coming!

Thanks Phil, i only wish i had half the talent of Stu and his amazing Dad, these two guys ROCK!
Stu, got your PM buddy, ill write you soon bro, and pass on again my homage to your old man, ill think of something for you two to get busy with in time LOL.

Right, im kinda out of sorts of late guys, not been too enthused to do anything model related of late, so its about time i posted albeit a small update.

I have the two outer bell mounts done now, not 100% on the money, but too much headscratching over ref was making me a dull boy indeed.

The RT engine mounts, are Leopold barrel mountings, but, ILM have done something in the way of modding them, as there is something else in the mix, and, standalone Leo parts, just wont make a good support for the bells.

I scratched styrene plates, and made the Leo parts a window dresser for them, then added the 88mm parts etc.

My blocked shaped parts are a tad too large, but not knowing the donors, im happy how they turned out.

Working on the centre mount now, but this one takes a bit more tech as its a nasty fit around the Tyrrell chassis.

If i can stop going all A.D.D around the model, and concentrate on one area at a time, i may finish her this lifetime LOL.

bests.....lee

Waaah, Lee, you've ruined it. Those blocks are splayed apart from each other!

:D you KNOW I'm kidding, yeah? (that's exactly how they're supposed to be)

They look spot on and the bells look great on those mountings.

Re: A storm is coming!

Damn you Martyn lol, yeah dont blame me, blame Plastruct, i cut some recangular bar to make some standoffs for the blocks, blow me once id primed i noticed they splay LOL.

Bet you cant ID the blocks! It was a quick fix as making them from sheet was just not going to happen, exhausting lol.

Not too fussed over it TBH, but im writing a letter of complaint to the manufacturer.......... :lol

You mean that was serendipity?!? What are the chances!! They look exactly right - all the blocks splay on the ILM model.

Re: A storm is coming!

Beautiful lee!! Your almost ready for ignition and lift off!:lol

What did you use to glue the metal bells to the plastic?

Regards,
Michael

Re: A storm is coming!

Al thanks, and Michael, cheers bro. The bells are secured with CA gel, worked a treat, and seeing as there is very little contact area, i didnt opt for a messy epoxy method.
The CA holds them very firm, and they weigh next to nothing anyhoo, in fact the whole engine array is super light!

Re: A storm is coming!

Looks great Lee. It's good to see the engines coming together so well. I'd really like to take on this project someday, and this is a perfect example to follow.

Re: A storm is coming!

Lee, Duuudddeee, I'm in awe, those engine assemblies look spot on to me, and the attention to all the relevent kit parts is just Wow!.
The bells look amazing under paint, all hooked up and ready to go, lol!. :eek
Thanks for the praises dude, Indeed I will pass that on to Dad and show him these amazing pics, he'll be so rapt to see them in place mate!.

Re: A storm is coming!

Cheers guys! Yeah Stu its nice to see them on there, fitted them today and they look snazzy.
Ill get the centre bell fitted this week, then get the upper cowls wrapped up and fully fitted, from there, i can really get to the good stuff on the upper hull.
