Rani's Tardis Animated Scale Model

I want to make a scale Model of the Rani's Tardis console seen in the Doctor Who episode "The Mark Of The Rani".

First of all, I don't know how to make Model anything, let alone a Tardis console. I don't know what Model makers use to make their models, & I'm going to need allot of step by step info to get it right. because I don't have the budget to start again & again.

What I have so far to make my Model are 6 3" steal rings I got from Hobby Lobby for the spinning rings.
(Is the best way, to use a alligator clip jig to hold them in place wile I glue them together with J B Weld?)

I have fore dc hobby motors I got from a couple foam disk shooter toys, toy drill with a gear system, & a motor from my leftover parts.
(The two disk shooter motors are to spin the rings. I'll need to know what resistors to use to keep a steady spin to the rings. The drill motor I hope is strong enough to push the central column up & down. The leftover motor is to spin the gyroscope on top of the central column.)

As for the rest of the console...what do I use?

You can use pretty much anything you think would work. The top of the console could be a bowl that had that shape you need. Little bits of styrene could be glued to it for the details. I think you can find small hemispheres at hobby stores or you could just cut holes and glue in marbles. The bottom could be any cylinder that's the right size and shape.

I started off with the gyroscope in th the center of the console.
Made from 2, 2 inch steel rings. One is cut in half & glued to the side of the first ring with J B weld.
The center shaft is a 16d 3-1/4" nail dremeled to size.
As for the plastic disk in the middle, its a cut piece of a CD cover.

I'm having trouble slowing the motors to my model. Is there a anyone here that knows about gear ratios, or electronic speed control?
I need a diagram & specific instructions for gears or electronic circuits. As I said before, I have no idea what I'm doing. If I can buy 3 ready made potentiometer that can slow down the 3 parts of my model, please let me know where I can get it.

Are their any pro - model makers here? I'd like to ask a few questions. How do I make the round panel of the console out of cardboard? What do I use for the spinning disk rotating the big rings? (it has to be heavy enough to Waite down & rotate on a hobby motor.) What is the smallest acrylic rod I can get? Where can I get 3 ready made potentiometers to run each of the 3 motors in my model? Wear can I get some chase lites for the underside of the console?

A few random ideas:
Google/youtube: PWM (pulse width modulation) Arduino and motor control. PWM is also a way to "dim" LED lighting. So read up on PWM, and Arduino separately.

Mini lazy susans, which round and spin might be worth a look. Although their bearing can be noisy.

Robotic hobby websites have bits&bobs that you could use like gears and shaft collars, motors and pulleys.

Check out micro-mark, plastruct, adafruit, sparkfun. Even if the items aren't in the budget; they may give you ideas.

You will have a nice set of skills when this project is complete.

Have fun!

Dude, that almost impossible. If you have never modeled anything you will have a lot of trail and error in your future. That does not mean a big budget though, just experience. People can help you go in the right direction but only you can do the step by step and maybe will discover novel ways of doing things.
