Randy Cooper 38" Star Destroyer Kit

Now that you mention it, they do look kinda shallow. Maybe it's just the photo. If these are pressure cast, they should be pretty identical to the masters.

Those panels that are cut, shouldnt they have a bevel in the middle to form a peak?
or you just might have to use filler to fill in the gap left.

This is what I mean...

I'm not meaning to critisise - just that this seems uncharacteristic of Randy's work... :confused

Yeah, that's the section I noticed........they don't even look like grooves in that pic, they almost look raised there. That surely is just an illusion. If you look at the rest of the hull, it looks normal. Again, could just be a bad photo. Maybe Randy can explain. (Maybe the Wizard of Oz will know what to do!!!!).........LOL. I couldn't resist, the sentence before that just sounded like a line in the film........LOL.

Dave :)

I'm sure its probably an optical illusion but damn they look like raised panel lines... and they do look a little rough... It could be a trick of the light and primer... tough to tell I'll reserve any judgement until I see more reference pics...

Looks really like raised lines. Hmm, lets hope this is just a test and the finals will be cleaner.
Were'nt most of those lines not just painted on with a pencil on the original model ?

Most of the lines were scribbed and then they redrew them with a pencil and added new ones.

Randy said not to worry, Those panels are the masters, still being worked on.
They will be cleaned up prior to molding.

Cool, thanks. :)

Looking at those split-down panels though, I feel I'll never be able to do it justice (engineering ain't my thing).

:lol

Just curios, is it just my eye or look those superstructures a litte bit too much raised ?
Might be just the angle, but on fotos of the original model these are much lower i think.

In my opinion, that is the perspective of the photo, you can see on earlier pics from different angles that those panels are the right height, in this photo, looking straight down, both the shadow to the right and the bevel on the bottom edge makes them appear taller than they are. It's just an illusion. Go to Randy's blog page and look at these same panels during their creation.....no primer..........they aren't nearly as tall as they look in this photo. :)

Ok, i have looked at the picture of the scratched hull and now i am sure that these panels are to thick. Somewhat the whole thing looks a little like out of proportion. Can someone of the makers say something about that ? Will these issues be changed ?

This is no offense against the maker (i know he is a very talented artist), just want to help to get the most accurate ESB Star Destroyer there ever was.

Here some pics of the original that everybody can judge and compare by himself:

We go thru this over and over on this board to no avail.............if you are gonna compare something via snapshots, you have to get the angles to match up in the photos being compared before you draw conclusions. I'm looking at the same pics you are and I don't see any problems myself. They look pretty dead on to me..........in one of the shots posted, the original looks fatter on that panel you circled than Randy's does. It's just the angle and focal length of the shots in my opinion.

You do realize that the panels you show in your second pic of the original prop is not the same raised panels you circled right??? Neither pairs of the ones you circled in Randy's pic are even present in that shot. Those panels are the ones closest to the main housing section which is not shown in the sections on Randy's photographed sections.

Ok, here a shot to compare directly. I mean if these panels are not too fat, i must be eyesick...
Again this is not a bashing but a try to change things before the "mass-production" begins...

Cant really see the thickess problem too good, id need to see better images of Randy's build, but i will say, i do notice those raised platforms arent too symmetrical, never saw it at first till it was pointed out to me.
It may be an easy fix build wise, itll all be clear when the pre order guys post with the cast kits!

here is a better pic of the thickness

Yes they do appear thicker, there's many other details issues which I noticed before buying the kit, but overall I'm very very happy with what I see, Randy really did a great job to capture the overall texture of the model details, this is a excellent scaled down replica of the SS version.
