rancor puppet replica

That's looking great ... also sometimes it helps to have your reference pictures in black and white as well as your own to see the small details without being distracted by the various colours :

Chaim

One last thing - I swear! I found that taking photos of my model was a nightmare because of the huge head. The cameras like to distort it and make it look too big. Set your camera as far back as possible and then zoom in. Should save you some headaches.

Thank you so much!it is true, the body was not on spot at all, i worked a lot on it today, and man there where a lot of things to modify on the lower and upper body, i did the crotch area, and raised the belly al you pointed out Chris, and i also brought back a little bit the shoulders and made it fatter just like in the photoshopped picture you posted, i looked at the scene in the movie over and over again, and Chaim i did look at some pictures in black and white, and i does help a lot because the color can hide certain details, so after fixing those areas it looks much better, tomorrow i will post some pictures :)

Great! Glad to hear it. It really is a difficult sculpture to get right. Also, with it being made out of rubber it will deform as well so you have that to contend with. It is a lot easier to look at someone else's sculpture and find problem areas - after a while you get blind to it. Looking forward to your next update!

Ok so here are some pictures, they come out rotated when i upload them with my phone, i'm sorry, i will try to post some straight ones as soon as i can, so i worked a lot on the body and the shoulder area, especially on the skin that connects the pectoral area to the arm, i did the crotch, but i still have to fix it a little bit, but so far i am very happy with the result.

Looking great! Really superb! I think you have a real sense of the weight of this creature. Feels heavy and dangerous. Do you still have the arms? I'd love to see a picture of it with arms on.

I do have the arms, but i can't quite get them to stay on since they are pretty heavy, i will try to make a support for them, so that i can take a picture of the creature with the arms on, i wanted to post some pictures of my progress today, but my phone won't take pictures for some reason, lately it's been acting weird and Chaim, that is great news!It motivates me eaven more in going on and giving it all i've got in this project!Just this morning my brother after seing the sculpt asked me wich was the best star wars creature, and i told him that it was most definately the rancor!I guess this video confirmes my answer

Ok so i think i am almost finished, i just have to do a few touch ups, i would like to get the molds done this upcoming weekend, i will do two coats of two different silicones, i do not know how they are called in English, but the first layer will be a very liquid type of silicone to get all of the details, and it will also be a very soft kind, the second layer will be of a thicker silicone wich will also be more rigid once it dries, then i will do a casing in fiberglass, naturally the molds will be all separated and i will have to put the parts together, i really hope nothing goes wrong, because if it does, i could have a heart attack!lol
The arms unfortunatelly i am not able to put them on the sculpture right now because they keep falling off do to their weight, i will have to figure out some way to keep them on

Looks really good!

Some casting tips for you:
Put the rancor in the fridge first to keep it from getting warm with handling (if it is oil clay).
Wrap it in bubble wrap when handling to stop your fingers from ruining the texture
I would use the same silicone all the way through. - It all starts out liquid anyway so you can pour the first coat or two on.
If you have an airbrush, use it to blast the surface once the first coat is on and still wet - it will help push the bubbles away.
Lastly, have a beer and a cigar on standby in case it goes horribly wrong!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Thank's for the tips Chris, and if something does go wrong, i don't know if a bear and a sigar would ease the pain, i would probably need a bottle of jack daniel's! lol

ok sorry for the long wait! It's just that i had ordered the silicone and it took some time to arrive, i just finished the mold of the head, and in the following days i will do the rest of the body, i will post some pictures in the upcoming hours :thumbsup

Ok so i did the mold of the head and it seems to have come out pretty well, tomorrow or day after tomorrow the material to get a cast out of it should arrive, and if everything goes well, i will continue making the molds of the hole body, once i have all of the molds i will make a model in a very hard type of plaster and then make the final mold, wich will be easier to manage
