R2D2 hero dome from ROTJ on eBay

I wonder if any footage of this ended up in TPM. Anyone ever notice any shots of an R2 with the unique, not-quite-lined-up rows of fiber optics unique to the OT?

Yes it did, that's the episide 1 blue paint. That rear dome panel with the green/yellow round flashing light was painted silver with it's border blue in TPM whereas it's almost always the other way round in the OT. The exeption being a brief shot in ANH I think.

The one good thing about this dodgy auction lot is that at least we now have some nice shots of this dome

I do feel sorry for the Elstree guys though if they didn't know of this prop's background when they acquired it..

About the fibre optics, I've not matched up any TPM screen shots to this dome, but Kenny's main dome from ANH would have been used in shots like the chess game on the Falcon - on that dome the rows of fibre optics in the bottom display are neater than the top display which is a lot more jumbled.

The R2 Dome auction is going ahead as planned at Profiles, but I do no that LFL are involved & on the case. Time will tell....

Its allot of old stuff beening saved from destruction after film by people with heart to save these.

Some of the original stuff saved from the eariler films were reused by LF when making of the new one.
They burn and destroy allot after finished filming. But some stuff turns up in the stranges places.

If its reached the dumbster... Who owns it? :angel

Sorry but that story does not apply in this case...Some stuff may have been inadvertantly thrown out in the early days of Star Wars fandom...And some random set pieces may have been trashed from the prequels...

However...There is NO way that LFL would have approved the discarding of an original hero dome...Simply would not have happened...

Besides, the story about this dome in question has changed over the years...

LFL knows about this dome. I called Don Bies the very moment I downloaded the PDF of the PIH catalog. Someone tried to sell me that dome waaaay back when. I immediately knew it's provenance (Kenny's R2 unit was parked near my desk at ILM for ages), and they disappeared. The pix they sent me EXACLTY match the photos on the PIH catalog.

This helmet was not "discarded". It was stolen. It's stolen property, pure and simple.
