Came into work real quick today for the magic paper that grants wishes (#check). Got all four ports installed...going to get a few extra screws and some nuts to hold them in. and painting the backs of the side vents blue. The LDP also got painted blue. That's it for now. I still need to buy two more coin returns, arms, and deep pocket vents to finish the body. I'm awaiting center vents shipment as well....

metal radar eye has arrived, as have center vents. all i need for the dome now are the utility arms and the deep pocket vents.

when i get back from the beach, pictures

If you want to go totally budget (me) you would build a wood frame. You just have to know how to use a router and a level or you can buy a Senna style frame pretty cheaply over at Astromech.

Wouldn't plastic be cheaper? If you were doing an all plastic one you'd already have the plastic to make the frame. Dave Everett made the plans available for the plastic R5 that he built.

made some quick edits to the vimeo video. adjusted total cost of dome, added proper credit from where I bought the radar eye, removed credit for the eye lens (member is having problems on other board) and will update the youtube link shortly.

Heading back north tommorow, weather down here kind of stinks. Will install center vents, try and get metal radar eye on, and try and hope that bondo will fill in the extra holes on the skins. the apoxy didn't cut it...so thin a metal, it just popped right through..

So tempting to buy a second dome and ge t it done right this time :). but that's gonna have to wait till september.

also, has anyone hear hooked up RC controls for dome spin? how much did that set you back and how tough was it to hook up?

i didn't put it on all the way because the wires are hanging too low for it to go on all the way. will have to secure them somehow so they don't rip out of the socket...
but it works, and turns..

I didn't hook up the little tension spring yet, that'll be next..

as for parts..

It's almost perfectly straight with the resin radar eye...with these holes it's a little crooked... i'd like to use the holes on the dome without drilling new ones....will have to decide what to do

some assembly required

Cut out the back squares for the power couplers..just need a bit more fine tuning. The front skins are now permanently on the frame, more or less..

On monday i'll fine tune the back power coupler hole. see if i can drill holes and get the center vents in place...and see if i can assemble the center vents. I've got it half worked out, but not sure about extra pieces :)

once that is done, all I really have left to do is find a way to attach the extra panels..since i'm not sure how that is supposed to be done, i'll wait on that a bit. i still have to order utility arms for the body..and will score a pair of resin pocket vents for the other missing part...

Also, ordered a PVC battery housing for both feet...

here's the work for today. I decided to JB weld the holes on the dome, so I can re-drill for the radar eye. they hardned up rather nice...so HOPEFULLY I can get it done right the first time.

Other progress, I gave the frames one rough spray of primer white. I finished cutting away the rest of the area around the power couplers, although the back can still use more work. The front is warped so you see the bottom. might have to put the worlds tiniest screw in there to toughen it up a bit.
and got the center vents drilled in. now just have to get them put together..

My PVC Battery Boxes came in... beautiful...... I ordered deep pocket vents from WORR. And I plan to put in an order for resin utility arms if no one is doing metal any time soon.

with any luck within two or three weeks the body of the droid should be done... Just need leg to body hubs..

Vents..not quite right

well, the metal ******* is finally on. it's straightness could use a bit of tweaking...it was pretty straight yesterday. This first head is def a learning experience. the second one should look ten times smoother when it's bought in october

FINALLY Got his head back on.. one damn screw was bent. I'm going to have to trim away some of the front frame..it doesn't clear the LDP at all. I have to stretch it out to make it. Frames have been painted white. HOPEFULLY I'll never have to take them off again except to install the deep pocket vents

Once I get the frame issues worked out, it's not coming along all that bad...I hope they can be worked with...don't wanna order new ones :).

Bought Jag outer feet.. Jag center foot shipped. Does the center foot need an ankle? Those are the last parts I need to complete the outer droid. Deep Pocket Vents have also shipped.

New Total cost of R2: $5,515's
