I just read through this whole thread and can't stop smiling! It is amazing what you've done with foam and household leftovers! I plan on showing my daughter this thread (she's 4) so she can tell her daddy we need to make one too!

Fantastic work! Can't wait to see Wall-E!

Unofrtunately show and tell was cancelled today because they had a white elephant sale in the gym all day, (Not sure why people would want to buy a white elephant though, ha ha ha). In case someone doesn't know what a white elephant sale is..
The "White Elephant" part of this term came from the nature of owning a white elephant in Siam (modern day Thailand).

To this day when an albino elephant (a physically white elephant) is born in Thailand, it belongs to the King for the religious and traditional reasons.
That elephant is sacred and can not be put to work or used in any way other than ceremoneously. So a white elephant provides nothing to the owner other than the honor of owning it, yet it still eats and takes work to maintain. The parallel in the use of "white elephant" in the sale is that the items are of no use to those selling them but at the same time retain some value. In the case of a "White Elephant Sale" the value is for the new owner. In the case of a royal White Elephant in Thailand, it is for the honor bestowed by the king upon the owner.

Anyway I was able to get some cool stuff, mainly for the kids, but I did find this nice little thing laying on a table priced at $2.00.

Not sure what I am going to do with it yet. But I couldn't pass up on it.
JJ (my son) and I are going to speak with his teacher next week and arange a time to take R2 in to class.

Late to the show again... BUT I have to say...

OUTSTANDING!!!!! Great build! Awesome work.

I will only offer one bit of advice... and maybe you are using it... I didn't see it mentioned though.... When working with foam, especially these matts... if you want to paint them and get REALLY good results, try a product called "Plastidip." You can typically find it at your local auto store and we also have it at our local Home Depot. Plastidip will seal the pores of the foam and give a better surface for paint to adhere to the foam. We use it alot in building Halo armor out of this same foam. Give it a try...

Ok lots of work done today.
Foot hoses
Battery box details
Large data port
Dome attached to body (Can be taken off very easily)
Ankle detail
Top center vent redone

For the hoses I really wanted to use the proper ones that you can buy for toilets and stuff but at around $10 each four of them would of cost the same as one third of this whole project.
So I used some old bungee cords, they kinda have the same texture. All I needed to do was paint them.

I used emtpy till rolls for the connectors.

I made some holes in the feet and battery boxes and glued the connectors in place then glued the hoses inside.

My youngest girl Hannah thought it only right that someone should take a picture of me with R2 so this her first try at using a digital camera.

All lights are done, For the sound all I do is lift the head and place a cheap MP3 player inside with small portable speakers attached press play and I have an hour long sound file of R2 which loops over and over.
Now he is all ready for his first trip out in public tomorrow. he is going to the local school for my son's show and tell, plus my little girls teacher has asked parents to show their hobbies and things at school, no one has come yet so the Teacher asked me if I would get the ball rolling and come in with R2 and my proton pack and a few other things. So Tomoorow it is off to school. I plan on taking R2 in the main door, switching everything on in the office and then pushing him along the hallway to the classrooms. Should be a blast.

I'm really excited to see what you do next!

I just ordered a remote control MP3 player with USB input for $15 on amazon. I'm goign to be wiring that up in mine. I'm also trying to figure out how to make the dome spin. I took apart an old plotter (large scale printer) that I had and used the gears from it to come up with something. Not sure if it'll work yet, but I think it might.

I'll be messaging you as soon as I'm ready to start on the body. I had some questions still.

DUUUUDE!!! Way to go Jamie! That is looking SICK! So did you use the Soda bottle trick for the Radar eye? I can't believe how well this turned out!
