Hi Mooneye63,
I hear ya man. Here's the issue. We're talking about miniature surface mounted electronics which have to fit into an area where there is literally "no" or "extremely small" space for it. You have room for a small battery and that's pretty much it. Let's look at the 10th. When that thing is collapsed, the acrylic rod and battery that sits behind it has to go somewhere.... right? That battery and the rod are the same length, as the tube for the most part. Believe me when I say I have looked at this thing for a while just on the electronics. I mean, you have the toy version and a couple others out there. Well... the toy version? I won't even go there. lol This is about a dead on accurate hero prop. Toys are usually made with larger dimensions etc to make that work. If I did that, you guys would hang me because its not accurate. Second, a lot of the other sonics I saw out there (and I've seen some really nice ones), fall short of giving you real sound... and I'm not talking about the sound you can only hear if you cup the prop in your hands while holding it close to your ear. LOL I could just play it safe.... not consider the electronics... and give you the exact same thing that was sitting in the props lock-up on the Dr. Who set. But, instead, I have been trying to address the electronics issue... mainly because somehow that "idea" was released to the fans before I had anything to do with the prop. When you get into electronics.... there is a lot of factors. I think that statement alone says it all.
Here's the plain honest truth guys. I won't promise anything to you unless I have a working prototype in my hand. I mean it just makes sense. Right? Anybody can say they can do something..... but can they actually deliver. I haven't known Andy that long... maybe a year and a half. I feel I can do good things for him so he can do good things for you. Just bear with me. I definitely will try and do my best.
Oh, mooneye63... you mentioned about the screws on the 10th etc. Here's the thing on that prop. When I looked at the screen used one, It had been repaired so many times and there were a couple extra holes were screws once existed etc and replaced with larger ones or whatever have you. Without seeing those photos you're talking about, I don't want to speculate. In fact, when I examined the prop... it actually had two different screws in it. It's funny you mention that. I machined up the complicated parts of the 10th for Nick for the one that was at Comic Con. I left out the screw holes and threading. This way when he got the parts, he could align and drill the screw holes where the need to be. My CAD shows the original exactly... so, the holes are not aligned because sometime during the show, new holes were drilled and tapped and one was more oversized than the other. I was going to leave those details into the prop. But, that wouldn't be what it originally looked like before the repairs. So, I figured Nick could drill those and that would be the end of that. I would use his hole locations as the design intent considering he worked on the show for years.
Hopefully, that answers your questions.

P.S. Hey QMx GGD.... FYI.... I'm not here to overshoot you at all. You're the PR gal.....I'm definitely no PR person by any means. And, I have a lot of respect for what you do.... just tryping a few posts is a job in itself. I think we need to talk though about some future ideas for the threads here. I'll send you a PM.
And to EXORAY.... great puppets. LOL
