QMx 2007 preview

Any ideas when the QMx site might be updated, or when any of these, or other products, might go up for presale?

Are you guys planning on having any sort of presence at Toy Fair?

The Serenity ship will be mighty tempting. I just hope Qmx can keep the price down some. These $1K and up studio scale ships are killing me. ;)

Wow, could you take yourself any more seriously?

Here's the deal, we're not a faceless corporation who doesn't care about your concerns....we're a new, little Licensed Prop company made up of 8 people, several of whom are RPF members, and there's not a public relations person in the bunch...unfortunate, I know, but we're working on it.

The money pack was a cool, in-expensive little product that we could produce quickly, and we felt that our customers would make the intuitive leap that, from the many pictures we released, the large map could not fit in the box (the product box, not the Fedex box) without being folded. Clearly, we were wrong and we learned something from that.

Then we made the mistake of offering the Miranda map as an extra and you called us on it...so we pulled it. As I mentioned, we're a tiny company, and we've had a few problems, as most startups do, coming out of the gate but we address them and rectify them when possible. It's not that we don't care, it's that our focus was on tha accuracy of the money, not packaging the map, which to us was just quick add in. We now understand now how important that was to some of you.

However, for a few of you to continue to bring up the folded map every time we release pics of new products...well...you're beating a dead horse. We got it. You have to remember that many of us consider ourselves RPF members first and not corporate spokespersons. We're releasing stuff to you guys before it's even on our website because we feel a kinship to the group. Many of us have been posting on the RPF for longer than many of you have. For you to bring up our goofs every time is unfair, so yes, occasionally we will respond in a light hearted way. It doesn't mean we don't respect you or your opinion. It means we get it and we're moving on, while you're clinging to your negativity.

For anyone at all familiar with any props Steve Dymszo has made, whether it be the James Bond or Judge Dredd products from his early SD Studios days through the incredible line of stuff he designed for MR, you know he won't release anything he feels to be sub-standard. The man has set the bar incredibly high and will continue to do so. We all love the licenses we have obtained and these are going to be props that we want to own and display.

Steve clearly says in his message on our website that "we don't take ourselves too seriously", and we don't, unless you're taking about the quality of the props we create. If you feel that the folding of the map is indicative of all our future products, then please hold off on ordering them. When your friends get their's and tell you how cool they are, and you feel more comfortable making your purchase, move forward. Hopefully they won't be sold out.

Take care,

Gary

Gary,

Thanks for more blah blah blah.

Bye.

Y'all wanna bash QMx, fine, but do it in your own thread. This thread is theirs, and you're farting in it.

"blah blah blah" Always wanted to know what bleat a "Darth" goat made. Thanks.

If a folded bonus map is the worst thing they do at the beginning of the start up, I will be quite happy with them.
Several of these projects I really look forward to seeing come out. Looks like a good line up with a good spread of product on the franchises.

Here's another teaser (since you guys were asking for more information). I promise I will let you guys and gals at the RPF know when we plan on taking orders, so that you'll have plenty of time to clear your schedule for "ordering day":

so I gotta ask... who's signing it? will it be Nathan Fillion, or will their be more crew members

and it looks like you got a database issue on your teaser blog post,
when the page first loads, it says January Ad and it links to the poster with all the goodies
but it quickly changes to read Current Ad with no link... you may want to edit that blog entry, as that's why some folks can't see the link

so now the only question is, who will be first to post another dumb folded joke....

I may get kicked in the face for saying this:

HOLY CRAP. ONLY $500?.

That absolutely sealed the deal for me. I will definitely purchase this.

Can't spill the beans on the Sig Ed yet, but you guys'll be told as soon as we can.

What browser are you using? Works fine for me, but I'm hardly a "large marketshare" computer user ;)

Thanks.

I'm on Windows and using Firefox
I caught the blog kawinky-dink cuz I'm a web designer/developer by trade

correction
it first pops up as January ad which is linked

and then changes to
latest ad which isn't, but I assume it's supposed to be

but for those having issues viewing the ad...

here's a link straight to it (hope you don't mind MoffEaton)
Qmx Ad

drool. Awesome.

[annoying]
BTW, you can use
"
to mean "inches", or you can use the actual word, but using both is redundant. ;)
[/annoying]

I really appreciate that Qmx is reproducing props from classic as well as recent Sci-fi/horror movies.

:thumbsup You guys rock. :thumbsup

Interesting discussion.

Please allow me to try to give out some more helpful info (what I can at this timeÂ…all info subject to change, management assumes no responsibility, etc etcÂ…) ;)

We are interested in hearing ALL feedback from collectors, both positive AND negative. What I would LIKE to curtail, is the: “I don’t like you, cause my friend says you are a jerkwad, so I am going to take ANY comments your company makes as a personal insult to make my point how much I don’t like you and then PM you to reinforce how much I dislike you even though I have never met you and don’t know you from a can of paint.”

If you want to do THAT, you can keep your dimeÂ…we donÂ’t really need it.

Like the other guy said…”Lighten up, Francis.” :p

RememberÂ…If you always go through life looking for a fight, you will always find one.

GuysÂ…

We are a bunch of prop collectors, designers, and business people who love these properties and want to make really cool models at fair prices.

ThatÂ’s about it.

No hidden agendas, no “death lists”, no “backroom payoffs”, not trying to get anyone banned behind the scenes, we have never asked the RPF mods to “alter” the threads or admonish anyone, etc… If you can prove otherwise, BY ALL MEANS…do so.

We just wanna make props. COOL props.

Being collectors and very-very-long-time RPF members ourselves, we are ALWAYS up for a fight. :D

So, we politely ask that you address us as you would like to be addressed… and life will be just spiffy. If you wanna carry-over “baggage” from another board, or wanna start slinging innuendo and rhetoric, insult the company or employees, be prepared to get taken to the woodshed. We are business people, not punching bags.

Cool?

But we would much-prefer to just talk about cool prop replicas. NOWÂ…

Yes, we have started development on a large-scale Serenity model. NOPE, it isn’t studio scale because the filming miniature was like ten-feet long. We are TRYING to incorporate lights and a spinning fusion core, which MIGHT make the price go up a bit, but it also may not. Looking at that right now. We may also produce a very exclusive “reaverized” version if there is enough interest (250 units maybe?) The model is patterned from the original lightwave files supplied by Tim Earls and using hi-rez reference shots supplied by Universal.

We are in discussions with Nathan FillionÂ’s agent RIGHT NOW, so that is why his name isnÂ’t on the SE yet. Deal isnÂ’t inked.

Again, specifications ALWAYS subject to changeÂ…

It is slated to ship in late-summer/early fall, 2007. We will feature a progress “log” on our blog showing pics of the prototypes, engineering drawings, updates from the factory, etc.

Ditto on the large-scale Galactica. It is looking to come in around two-feet long and at this time, (to the best of my knowledge) QMx is the ONLY company slated to be making a large-scale model of this ship. Something could change, but that is what I know right now. Take that for what you will. It will be in a “diorama” format…i.e.; per our license, it has to be orbiting a planet, launching Vipers, etc. Emulating some scene from the show. So that is what it will incorporate. (but the scene won’t be glued together, so you can improvise…)

We are hoping to use some very innovative production techniques to enable the model to have separate hull plating and fully-detailed, open landing bays. Specifications subject to change. There will also be retailer-exclusive versions such as a battle-damaged model and a pilot-version model with the “gift shop-windows” on the starboard landing bay. Maybe another version as well. No lights. Specifications subject to change.

The BSG models should be about $300 to $349. Not set yet. Scheduled release is Sept-ish.

The WOTW martian war machine will be in two versions. FIRST is the static, model-only molded from Greg Jein's 15-inch wide original filming model. The SECOND will be an interactive blowed-up-street diorama with lights and sound.

All of these higher-end products will have the X-pay, 3 to 5 payment plan available. We want to get the Dog Tags and Mal pistols shipped before we “officially” announce these items for actual pre-order. We are hoping to have tags out first week of Feb and Mals before the end of the month? Working on it. Dracula rings are slated for shipment this month.

In Feb, we are also releasing a fully-licensed set of blueprints of the Serenity designed and hand-signed by Tim Earls and Geoff Mandell and hand numbered. Limited to 500 pieces. Includes the shuttles, the Mule, etc and Serenity interior and exterior views, created from the original source files and featuring data and drawings never seen by the public. 18” by 24” sheets... NOT folded…rolled. Begin more dead horse jokes. SRP $135 ish. Already a quarter-sold out…wow. This will also include some other surprise goodies and a discount coupon for purchasing the Serenity model. The blueprints should be on the site for sale at the end of the month.

Or come to the FX show in Orlando on Jan 26th to 28th and pick one up in-person.

When you get a chance, check out our blog...it currently has a couple of video interviews and we have dozens more coming...15 hours of footage from Forrest Ackerman, Rainmaker, Stargate CGI technicians, ISS, BSG, Stargate, and Serenity special effects staff, etc. VERY cool info. And new stuff coming in every day.

We hope to make our fellow-"RPFers" and "Scummers" proud.

I got nuthinÂ’ elseÂ…(for now)

Start snide comments on OT board in ten, nine, eightÂ…

Holy crap. Color me excited, this sounds like a promising year for QMx replicas. And to go along with up above, how are folks already preordering the blueprints?

And I'm assuming I read correctly, but with the Galactica, say if we wanted to do a more model-oriented display, we could just remove all the diorama swag, and display as is? Cool.
