PropShop announces TFA Props!

I would venture to say everything inside is 3D printed and the exterior is aluminum or metal. The detail on the inside parts look to be 3D printed plastic and does not feel like metal but the metallic paint job is great.

i don't mind that, but if the whole top T part of the body with the emitters sticking out
(we really need a name for that section... maybe call it the T Head section)

is 3d printed and the only metal part is the tube (middle section), that turns me off...

please excuse the crudity of this model... it's down pouring on the jobsite right now and i'm camping out in the company truck waiting to see if we will get to go home. sketched this up on my phone.

I found the video I was referencing. Scroll down to see the video called "The Workshop at Pinewood Studios"

towards the beginning, you can see the cast parts for the Kylo saber. It looks as if the entire outside body is made of metal as they show an unpainted lower cage

wonderful! you dont know how much i appreciate you hunting down this video! so it looks like the entire cross guard is cast in aluminum, and then the casting is hand sanded to remove the seams!

man... i really want this saber

Since there are so many awesome but undersized Kylo sabers out and coming out from various runs I assume someone will do a metal run with accurate size and details now that the Prop Shop Kylo saber is out???

I also noticed there does not seem to be any discussion of the size difference in the various threads.

I posted the picture of the Prop Shop, Hasbro and Korbanth fan made one. I was surprised after getting the Prop Shop version as to the size difference after having the Korbanth version for so long. I am sure there will be all metal ones made by someone soon.

Yeah I saw that. I was very surprised there was no discussion of it.

It actually was out for delivery after 10 weeks. I ordered on the first day they were annouced so maybe they had an influx and could even be quicker. However as they wont ship to the UK (even after some face-to-face pleading with their team) it took a while to get it to the US and then back through UK customs. Another 2 weeks and another tax bill. In retrospect a minor annoyance in contrast to the pleasure it gives me to own it.

I've got some canned air and give it a blast every couple of weeks. :)

.

Wow you had to ship it to the states to then get it shipped back to the UK ? That's devotion man! It's pretty mind blowing that their licensing doesn't let them deliver in the same country they are made.

Any updates on the blue Saber?

no news yet. I spoke to them last week and they told me that they put the order in for my replacement. Hopefully they emailed them all my pics and concerns or just placed a blind order for a replacement. I'll post any updates

I just received a shipping notification for the "blue Kylo" replacement. So I started the replacement process on 9/13 and I will receive the replacement before 10/13. So it looks like it will be about a 4 week turnaround for any replacements from Propshop, which is surprisingly fast!

that's really good news! glad they stood behind it!

Wow awesome! Meanwhile other companies can't ship in a few years... :behave

Besides the Kylo hilt, Kylo Helmet, Darth Vader Melted and Rey hilt, did anyone else order any of the other Prop Shop TFA props?

The Pawn

TRAPPED-DESTINY OF GOOD...or EVIL?

Holy ever-lovin' crap! I just realized through tedious photo analysis and comparisons that the DISNEY STORE version is actually the closest (dimensionally-speaking) hilt replica available. The Hasbro has an overall size similar to the prop, yes. But while it has an accurate lower section and upper section diameter, it is noticeably too thick in the middle.

the Pawn, can you please post a pic of the propshop hilt next to a Disney Store hilt to confirm this?

The Disney Store version has the same dimensionally-accurate lower and upper sections (a hair over 2" diameter for the upper section), PLUS it has the correct mid-section diameter (1.67" according to my calculations) as the real deal, as opposed to the 1.8" mid-section diameter of the Hasbro version.

The Disney Store version shares these innacuracies with the Hasbro:
• shorter and wider top emitter to accommodate a plastic blade
• wider and shorter side quillions
• larger-diameter area immediately underneath the top emitter to match the enlarged upper emitter diameter

The Disney Store version has this unique inaccuracy compared to the Hasbro version:
• 4 of the six vertical flared cooling fins on the bottom section are tapered on one side to allow removal of each half of the lower section from a mold

I've been wanting to do a hardware build, and had convinced myself, before you posted pics of the propshop saber, that the Disney was slightly oversized. If you could post this comparison, it would really help me a lot.

Thanks!
