Hey all! I was asked to make these vintage looking swimsuits to match up with the ones the Beatles wore....I think they turned out pretty good!
The easiest ones were the Paul and Ringo ones, although finding tee shirt weight orange fabric the right color wasn't that easy for some reason, so I ended up using a sweatshirt fabric on his. I just counted out how many stripes each of the original Beatles Swimwear had, and then made long strips to wrap around Tee Shirts of the base colors and sewed them on. I ordered some shorts from Hanes and added the stripes to those as well. John's was the hardest, more time consuming, I guess, since his has 3 colors ( I sewed the 2 colors together before sewing that nw 2 tonesd stripe onto the base tee shirt) and is long sleeved.
I initially tried to find rugby shirts with those colors and was totally unsuccessful, so I then tried to paint oversized tee shirts, and that didn't look quite right either, so I got out my sewing machine. I just used women'a leggings for George and John's bottoms, and ordered some straw barbershop hats for the complete look. They were worn by BritBeat at AROTR Louisville 2010 and were a great hit!
