Hey all,

For awhile now, I had been wanting to try my hand at sewing my own GB 1 style flight suit.

After having the cotton khaki ripstop for about 2 years, I was finally able to knock it out over this weekend.

Now, I had to eyeball pretty much all the pocket measurements based on the zipper sizes and the prop store pics of the Venkman and Stantz suits, so I am not gonna beat myself up too much on it's inaccuracies.

I did start with a commercial pattern for the main front panels of the suit, sleeves and main front breast pockets, but everything else was done with my designs.

It required adding the action pleat in the rear, drafting new shoulder panels, back channel and straps (with elastic hidden in the channel,
adding a storm flap, lengthening and widening the zipper facing, adjusting the cuff straps, and of course, all the other pockets.

But it was a great starting point.

I did my best to match the direction of the zippers on the CWU 27/p suits and the rough proportions.

The only thing I didn't do was the cone shaped vent on the legs because 1) I was lazy and didn't want to do it and 2) I will most likely always wear the legs tucked into boots or just fully zipped. In addition, I will add the brass eyelets later as I thought I had a setting tool, but seems to have gotten lost.

It took awhile to accumulate all the necessary brass zippers, and I will probably add on patches from the Calgary ghostbusters.

Thanks guys!

I took a few minutes this morning to redo my collar after staring at it for awhile.

Much happier with this version.

Finally got a chance to put it on and take a few quick pics.

I still need my patches, but debating what name to use.

Great work... these are NOT easy pieces! And I love that rug you've got there. ;)
Thanks! As you know, it's a big project to get everything in there. They're so different suit to suit that it's hard to land on one GB.

And thank you! I only wish they made a bigger one hah

Any update on your flight suit? It's very well detailed. looking at different options for next year and having a seamster make a flight suit with the correct pattern and ripstop fabric has been a bucket list item that caught my attention based on your own work.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this!

These are honestly a pretty big beast to sew as one offs/small numbers.
I am still considering it (i bought a bunch of ripstop that I am almost certain is the same used in Afterlife) but it will be a summer project if I do it.

Hey all,

I almost forgot I posted this suit here!

I have been growing my business the past two years and I am introducing a new product to my Surplus Line (items made out of house - literally, I sew mainline fabrics and leathers from my basement now) :

The Hook and Ladder Coveralls

These are for preorder now on my site (I have a project run post here: CWU 27/P Suit - The Hook and Ladder Coveralls by KarolianDryGoods

The prototype suit shown is a 1:1 of a vintage suit that was torn apart and patterned. I am accuratizing the sample to match the version seen in the film - though not based on one particular actors suit. The color of the fabric will be a slightly darker khaki, as will the velcro. The snap will be nickel and the grommet will be moved. The label configuration will also change as pictured.

So if you are interested in where this project went, well now you can get a really accurate replica off the rack (when they arrive)

Available in a wide range of sizing.

I am working on a few preorder incentives that are details I am ironing out!
