Prof Shelly Oberon Jumanji

OK, so the socks. Tried everything. The only thing I have not tried is the Scottish kilt socks...

Thanks for all the great info!

Just a note, the same firms, such as House Of Cheviot, make both Kilt Hose and Shooting Socks.

Sometimes the difference is only the length: Kilt Hose are shorter, to have the turnover around the top of the calf, while Shooting Socks are much longer, designed to fold over the tops of Wellies.

The film Shooting Socks appear to be the colour the makers usually call "natural".

This thread is so good. We should do this for the rest of the costumes as well. I'm working on Nigels costume now.

Hello, glad I found this thread from 4 years ago... I wanted to do the Prof Shelly costume and started collecting parts in 2019 but with Coronavirus in 2020 everything Comic Con has been pushed back a couple years. Anyway I found the exact shirt. It's a " L.L. Bean Mens Short Sleeve Button-Down Cotton Off-White Plaid Check Shirt" and i paid $19 for a used on off eBay. The eye glasses are here: Amazon.com: Retro Small Metal Round Glasses Frame for Women Men Non-Prescription Circle Clear Lens Glasses John Lennon Style 2 Pack - (Gold + Silver) : Clothing, Shoes & Jewelry ; the cheaper brass compass https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013IC8PYY?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details ; DON'T LAUGH but for the safari pants I am installing elastic in the cuff and using a pair of "Lee Riders Regular Fit Easy Care Beige Capris Size 20W". Ok that's it but I wanted to thank you all for getting me started on this. - Dave

Please post photos of your finished costume! I would love to see it!

During the Covid lockdown I worked on a number of costumes but sorry to say Shelly's got put on the back burner.

Hi Dave et al: I also found this post from a few years ago. I had started to collect some stuff including a Pith Helmet for a generic Steampunk outfit but at the Awesome Con in DC I had the idea of doing an actual Professor Shelly costume. I am a big guy like Jack, so this character fits my body shape. I'm having trouble finding a reasonably accurate vest and safari shirt in my size. A lot of them can say 3XL, 4XL, etc. but looking up the measurements they are more like XL or 2XL by American sizes. I did find a place that will do bespoke tweed vests with the lapel and get pretty close, but that's looking at $150+. Men's Custom Vests, Tailored Vests Online $99 - Hockerty

I have another question: there are two heights available in that boot. The tall one seems like it would come up over my calf, but it looks mid-calf on him, but it's hard to tell since I think he has the top of his socks folded down over the top of the boots. Thoughts? One seems too tall and the other too short:
