Nice stuff Juno.

My 2¢, criticisms to make it more accurate to that screencap

I don't believe there is a white dropshadow on the "From" or the Atom symbol.
And the dropshadow on Space Shuttle is too far out.

As well the exhaust from the shuttle looks like it should be a black to yellow gradation not something airbrushed/blurred.

And your black border is not centered.

:D

I'm not an expert on this prop, in fact I have never seen it before. But to me I don't think there is a white shadow, I think that's the result of the image quality. To me it looks like the image has been sharpened up after the fact. Look at the really black edge on the coat...same idea, light on dark or vice versa are giving sort of shadows that shouldn't be there.

*CRY* you try and do nice things...

Just kidding. Actually Talisen I really struggled on the shuttle exhaust -- I knew it wasn't a blur, but I couldn't figure it out -- I've changed it to a gradient fill with the orange background. I've update the outline PDF link and the image in the original post.

Here's the straightened image I was working from. I could SWEAR that there's an outline... (on everything.)

However, being the amiable girl that I am, I also slapped together a non-outline version for all the outline haters. (It's just a couple of layers.) Download it here.

Oh, and as to your $2: My little brother got his arm stuck in the microwave. So my mom had to take him to the hospital. My grandma dropped acid this morning, and she freaked out. She hijacked a busload of penguins. So it's sort of a family crisis. Bye.

No gradient fill just lines that come to an apex "motionlines" to indicate speed.
As for the white outline, there is no white out line that is an illusion caused by the black when you look at it. White being the oppisite color of black. Its like when you stare at something with red letters and look away you see a green outline of the letters.

Can you sketch what you mean?

I think he means speed lines. It's possible.

As for the sharpening issue people have brought up. I believe they are incorrect. You can see the effect of sharpening along the black boarder, atom and FROM text, there is a brightening of the areas immediately around the objects, but not to the same extent as the white dropshadow.

so what movie is this box from? i moved to the US in late 80's and didnt know english so there are a lot fo good movies ive never seen

thats about right..for the lines maybe thinner and more pinched at the end. Or they could be dots like the old comics.
You have to remember graphics in the 80's were hand done very few places had computer text yet and for a movie with a low budget..
A drop shadow was made by making the same letters or item in a different color and then layed out off set to the main letters or graphics first then the main letters or graphics were placed on top. When I was doing graphics in the early 90's we still did it the old school way.

Edit:  Upon closer inspection, I think the original does have the white shadow, it's just not as obvious.  Great job.

No, the white shadow is a "flare" effect from the video. It's not really there.

Correct, the effect is more pronounced where there are large contrasting colors. You won't get the "ghosting" in the thinner lined areas, only in the very bold letters or large areas of black.

Okay, this is officially going to be one of the coolest sites ever.

Hope you're ready for some heavy duty foot traffic. :)

My server is ready. Thanks Pilot. ;)

I am just trying to create the site that I was waiting for to pop-up. I am still hoping for more participation, by having people email me free paper props, so I can upload them.

Cool Kris -- as soon as I get final approval on this shuttle sticker, I'll have you add it as well.

Here's the latest and greatest:

That's the one. If only such a tome of knowledge truly existed, I'd probably be a happier guy. :lol

I was recently asked about the smaallvile manuscript artwork i was working on a while back to complement the map that was goign around. Is there sufficient interest here to get this done? If so, I will get back on it and offer it here. Or has anyone else tackled it?

That's GREAT.. :lol I LOVE that movie. Not to digress but my favorite bit o' dialog is:

He keeps trying to put his testicals on me.
.....His... his WHAT.?.
His testicals. You know, like an octopus.
Oh. You mean his "tentacles"... Big difference.
