Re: Paper prop Thread

I've got a big ole bundle of Blade Runner images and research (amoung other stuff) that I'd love to share but there must be a better way of sharing all of this stuff than shipping physical CD's around. We live in the future now, it shouldn't be this hard. :)

I know there are free services out there that have big file upload/transfer options.

Rapidshare?
Torrents?
megaupload something?

Internet supergeeks, we need your help!

A new thread would be helpful too.

Nick

Re: Paper prop Thread

A torrent would be great so long as people seed it. Perhaps of a password protected RAR or something with the password given out by request only to help mimimize the nogoodnicks that would use the contents for their own gain.

Re: Paper prop Thread

How about an online repository? Private site, and grant every contributor access, and make it accessible trough a nice front end gallery or so.

Re: Paper prop Thread

Wow, I'd so be there if just to meet you Adam. I'm a huge fan. Don't worry, I'm not the creepy kind :D

Too bad I'm not even stateside.:cry

Can I still send in my DVDs and get everyone else's in return? :p

Re: Paper prop Thread

Guys, I have a better idea. It will save a lot of hassle and postage.

I have set up a directory on my domain so you can all upload (ftp) your files (in a zip file format only).

It will be only posted here, so the people on this thread will know.

I have just set this up.

use an ftp client to connect to:

connect to: ftp.powweb.com
account name: rpf
login: rpf
password: rpf

this will give you access to a single directory just for this.

So, is this a better idea? Will it get used?

Guys, I have a better idea. It will save a lot of hassle and postage.

I have set up a directory on my domain so you can all upload (ftp) your files (in a zip file format only).
I have a few questions:

1) What's a ftp client? Is it a software I need to install?
2) How much storage space is allocated for that directory in your domain? Seems like every single person will be uploading in excess of several Gigs each, even zipped.
3) Can those who uploaded their stuff go back and add onto it?
4) Can someone go in and delete the files or muck around with them?
5) Or worse, can some one upload a zip file which is a booby trap and will unleash viruses once unzipped?

Sorry for being a drag but I feel these are valid questions.

Re: Paper prop Thread

Adamata, maybe it would be marginally more secure if the password was obtained by PM. That way anyone lurking to pillage your efforts wouldn't get the same access as members here. It's far from foolproof, and saddles someone with answering lots of requests for the password. It's still better than someone posting great work up here one day and seeing some hack selling it on Ebay the next day.

Re: Paper prop Thread

Fettclone,

Good point.

OK, I have made some changes.

The password to FTP has been changed, as well as access. I have password protected the page. The user and password info in the same for both FTP access and for access to the page.

1.) What's a ftp client? Is it a software I need to install? File Transfer Protocol. If you use firefox, you can get a FTP client built into is as an add-on. Simple and easy to use. Google it. ;-)

2) How much storage space is allocated for that directory in your domain? Seems like every single person will be uploading in excess of several Gigs each, even zipped. I believe I have about 1500 gig available to me. Maybe I would ask that files be broken down into 500meg chunks. I am pretty sure I have a decent amount of data transfer available as well. If size/transfer becomes a problem, I will take the service down. But I am willing to try

3) Can those who uploaded their stuff go back and add onto it? yes, I guess you could. Anyone with ftp access could, in theory, delete all the files. you would be a real dick, but you *could* do it. I guess you could delete your own file and upload a new version.

4) Can someone go in and delete the files or muck around with them? see above. Password protection will fix most of this since its a restricted access

5) Or worse, can some one upload a zip file which is a booby trap and will unleash viruses once unzipped? yes, but once again, controlled list of people with access.

So, is anyone interested?

if so, email me here for access:

adamata@restrainingbolt.com

and i will send you what you need. I will try to get my stuff up there tonight as well.

Inspired Umbrella Corporation ID Badge

Guys, I'm such in a spending mood, I don't know why :)

Though I never played Resident Evil on any systems, I know what the game is about and have seen the first movie and the second just yesterday - catching up the third soon. I like the corporation's logo design and motto, that inspired me to do a more fancy version of the ID. The first movie prop was "blank" and "boring" - so I based the badge loosely on this ID: Blank Umbrella ID making it more readable and more like coming out of the movie.

By pure coincidence (I designed it before I saw part 2), the result looks more like the computer interface in the second movie, which I saw yesterday as stated above.

This is my badge:
my UC ID72dpi.png

the template looks like this:
UCIDtemp.png

and the Visitor badge would be like this:
UCIDvisitor.png

Here is the SVG File with the needed fonts to complete your own ID and print it on a vertical badge like this: http://www.laminex.com/KronosPartners_CustomKronosCards.cfm

download here

When I got time and money I'll print it on a PVC card with a Umbrella logo Holomark next to the biohazard sign, which the free space is intended to.
The advantage is, you can set the dpi as you like and save it as a png - I'm using Inkscape for doing the vector GFX. Have fun!

The Office set dressing props

Thought some people might find these useful - seems someone from one of "The Office" fansites got invited out to the set recently... she got photos of many of the desktops and other items... those into paper props will likely find these useful... :)

This last one is interesting, and I wish it was larger - these were made by Ed Helms to pass the time during shooting - they were supposedly made from office supplies on the set...

These two have the same border as the Michael Scott "Quality Seyko Timepiece" Certificate of authenticity. Great contribution!

Re: Paper prop Thread

Excellent news about the FTP. Very generous of you!

I'd recommend using only a PM based password system. That would keep it so that people only with "official" access to the board are linking up to the FTP.

Otherwise anybody reading the board could simply email you and impersonate anyone on the board to get the password. I know it's a bit paranoid sounding but it help keep troublemakers from deleting everything or uploading viruses.

There are a lot of jerks online.

Re: Paper prop Thread

First let me say thank you to adamata for providing the FTP site for these files.

I wanted to bump this thread and urge others to contact adamata for the login information so that we can keep this going and make use of the generous opportunity that he has given us.

I have uploaded a few files as has adamata and ssb (don't know who that is).

Re: Paper prop Thread

Well, as I'm now obsessed with Iron Man and can't build something like TMP's suit I've made this instead. Since I don't have much reference to go by this will have to do until better pics are released. Hope you paper prop collectors will find this acceptable for the time being.

Re: Paper prop Thread

Oh, I forgot to add that the font for the word "VISITOR" is not correct. It looks to be close to, if not the same as the font for the NCIS badges. If anyone has that font and is willing to share I would greatly appreciate the help. I'll then make this badge a tad more correct.
