Predators - Royce Costume

Augo, here is the shot in Noland's hideout from the BluRay. I couldn't find that other shot...

RPF member crazy4bobafett is modifiying my gloves for me. The glove on the left is an unaltered grey glove. The glove on the right is the Acid glove with the white panel replaced by the grey panel. What do you think? I thin it is perfect! Just needs weathering!

Thank you for the scan Art, and I have to say that the cross between the two gloves looks really close to what´s seen on screen, and really left me thinking.:thumbsup

I think once we get them weathered down, that is going to be what we want. They still have to get filthy dirty.

I thought I would share this small tip with those of you who plan to go to conventions with your costume.

I absolutely despise "peace-bonding" of weapons at conventions. I understand the need but I often find that the knuckle-draggers doing it take little care or concern with your expensive props and will tighten a wire-tie until it cracks something or will slap a very hard to remove sticker on a painted item...

In the case of Royce's TOPS Steel Eagle 107C knife, we are dealing with a legit weapon that could hurt someone. My goal is to carry the real deal with as little potential for harm as possible and hopefully avoiding the "peace police."

If you purchase an original TOPS Steel Eagle 107C it comes with a nylon case (not used) which has a hard plastic insert. I use this insert inside my shotshell panels and have added velcro to the outside of the insert and the inside of the shotshell panels. It holds so well that the insert is almost impossible to get back out of the shotshell panel once velcroed in place. This provides a stable and secure sleeve for the knife, so you have no worries about the knife cutting through the shotshell panel.

However, the knife can simply be pulled up and out of the sleeve (as designed) and still presents a danger at a convention.

Conveniently the knife has a small hole in the spine of the blade. I simply took a dremel and drilled a small hole through the hard plastic sleeve, aligning the hole in the sleeve (took a little trimming of the lip of the sleeve) with the hole in the knife.

After I had the hole, I simply put a small screw through, added washers and viola! The knife is going nowhere! In fact, you could almost pick me up by the knife handle at this point, it is so securely fastened. Best of all, once the sleeve is in the shotshell panel, you can't see the screw, so the knife still appears to be screen accurate. The second best thing is that this does NO damage to your $150 knife!

Below are a couple of pics of the final setup!

Please explain the weathering process you keep applying to everything. Are you tossing these things in the washing machine with sand or clay or dye or mud? Are you hand dipping or hand washing in a special wash of some sort. Details please.

For Royce, from start to finish I have used one weathering technique... and it is tricky, but not hard. I have a canister of grey tinted fuller's earth that I am mixing in water and then using a paint brush, applying to the different pieces and then taking a rag and blotting it back off. When wet, it makes everything look absolutely black... and I have scared myself a couple of times that I may have ruined my pieces, but when it drys, you get the light grey dirty look you see in my photos. A lot of the pieces have multiple passes and some have quite heavy passes to them. What is happening is the little bits of black dye in the fuller's earth is getting transferred to the pieces and slowly but surely it is dying them. You have to be extra careful not to do this evenly so you get a dirty and stained look instead of just a darker look.

On the gloves, I am applying it a bit more evenly because I am wanting to take down that bright acid green color. Again, it is a slow process because you have to weather, and then let it dry and then see what you think.

Now, some people might not like this, but one of the things I like is that the pieces ARE actually dirty. If you rub your hand across the vest, you will come away with light traces of the grey fuller's earth.

BTW, talked to the guy at 3gungear.com today and ordered a drum pouch from him. Will let you guys know how it looks when it comes in.

Haha... 3gungear just called me back because I sent some additional photos for reference and they said it revealed some details involving the zipper that they previously had incorrect. They are correcting it now and I will get the first corrected pouch!

Looks like all I will be missing for Comic Con is the watch, machete and the pistol... and of course I will be wearing the navy pants since I can't find the charcoal... Getting close!

Thought I'd come see the build thread and how its progressing. The gloves turned out great! Those are them dead on...see you both in 5 days! =)

Thanks, Christi! You did an amazing job putting those two gloves together! So thrilled with the result!

all of that can be found on the ops gear site. in the same colors. i just saw that shirt. i think its on sale

Can you post some pics of the drum pouch zipper mystery? Does anyone even have a drum to put in the drum pouch for a quick test on size?

Sure. According to Mark at 3gungear the zipper on the drum pouch is a
concealed zipper with and with a para cord pull and plastic tab end. I guess a concealed zipper is more or less a regular zipper turned inside out. Here is a pic Mark sent me which does indeed look like the original.

Mark had dimensions posted up on his site and I should know within the next week whether or not his pouch will hold an actual AA-12 drum.

Alright... my parts didn't come in today... hopefully on Monday... but we are getting down to the wire and I have spent two days weathering the pants... Believe it or not, these are the navy blue pants! Parts are missing and I see about a half dozen adjustments I want to make, but overall, it is coming together.

Ugh... and I have to shave my arms... The things we do for this hobby.
