Predators - Royce Costume

Just another note, I am not sure if the 74251 line is being discontinued or if just the charcoal in that line is being discontinued but finding the charcoal in 74251 is a bit tough. I would STRONGLY recommend if you are planning to pick up a set of these pants, you do it pronto.

This site seems to still have them in stock.

Now I have to return these and get the right model. Even though I feel like the Charcoal looks a little weird, Mirax has a much better eye for color than I do, so I am going with this pant for my costume. Trying to decide if I should keep the Navy just for day to day wear.

More confusion, this time on the pants. I called up the people at Quantico Tactical to talk about the pants. I already have a perfect fitting pair of the 5.11 (74251) pants in navy color. I ask the lady do they have the charcoal grey and she tells me they carry light grey. So while I am on the phone with her I open a new web page so I can see the actual color samples on 5.11's home page. I do search for 74251 and I see the color smaples on the left side of the page:

They read:
Black.......Coyote Brown.......Fire Navy.......Grey.......Khaki/Charcoal
OD Green.......Tundra

I want to get a second set of pants to cover my colors and I am trying to get the Charcoal type color but since 5.11 is driving my insane as you can see, who has has the exact color match or the closest color match for the pants? Which ones did you get and are we still talking about a semi-dark grey color?

Art, check the opening scene where Oleg opened up on Royce. Look where he says "one shooter". It shows his leg with the holster straps. It definitely looks like navy blue pants.

I don't know your size but I know Quantico Tactical doesn't have the charcoal in 32X32... :(

And yes, you want CHARCOAL, not GREY. Grey is a very light grey while charcoal is much darker.

You have to be careful with color correction. The greens are really green. And the guy in the back has blue jeans and shirt that look much bluer than Royces.
 
This is a picture I posted earlier. The man says the pants were black and are distressed after several washes. They look real close to what we see on screen. By the way, the new model 5.11s have too short side pockets for the ones we see in the movie!!

Well, I picked up a Navy and a Charcoal set (from two different sites) with the right waist, but too long in the leg and we will just have to hem them up. I am still struggling with the color, so I will just have both. Maybe I can pick up a full mannequin and do pics of both and we can decide what looks best. I still have the black pair that I picked up but I honestly dont' think that is what we want, even with it being weathered.

I would like to... but I am not sure when, and without Predators, it will look like just another army guy... I don't know how many people will be able to ID it. The other problem with wearing it is that 1) I don't look anything like Adrian Brody and 2) this costume is wet and muddy throughout the entire movie. Now, I have weathered the pieces, but I couldn't get them to continually have the wet and muddy look. I don't know. We will see. May just wear it at Comic Con just because... but it bugs me when something isn't right.
 
Ok, I finally got a correct holster. The plastic clips are tan though, no surprise there. I have no idea where a Coyote Tan holster with black clips could be found. It kinda makes no sense as the BLACK blackhawk holster has black clips, the green holster has green clips and the tan holster has tan clips and when I called Blackhawk this morning I was told that Blackhawk has always made them that way but they are not making those holsters anymore. Now I am starting to think that the man and woman who did the wardrobe really customized more than a few things. I guess I can just use the Ritt Dye trick and dye them black but not all the clips can be removed and would have to be cut off. Is this the SOP that everyone is doing ?

Before Blackhawk made tan buckles on tan holsters, they sold tan and green holsters with black buckles. Weird they don´t remember what they manufactured. As proof (beside the movie) is the picture from Amazon (where I think you bought your holster) Also I had more pictures from tan holsters with black buckles I erased from my PC (sorry, I do that after I recieve the real replica)

As I explained a few posts earlier, I replaced the tan buckles and triglides with the correct model from ITW. Of course another option is to dye them black, but they are a different model than the ones in the movie.

PS: I cut the short strap that retains the little buckle for the extra security strap, 2,5 cm. tall ( I scaled that on Corel).

Thanks for the help everyone. I am really thinking that the people that answer the phone do not know what they are talking about. Now I am on to the step of getting the clips to be black, so wish me luck on the dye project I am in for now. I was thinking that since Royce's thigh holster was an older model of blackhawk and the 5.11 charcoal pants color are so hard to get now that perhaps the wardrobe people who worked on the film had access to old stock and supplies. But we make do with what we have access to.
 
We normally get together sometime Saturday afternoon at the Marriot. Like many groups, we first get together on those side sections of the 10th floor for our group pics, and then head down to the lobby.
