Got it last night and started watching this morning. The new transfer is much, MUCH better than the original BD release. I can't complain at all about the $15 and a free movie ticket that came with purchase.

I can't really comment about Bluray movies, I've never had the will to get one or watch one, but that picture in your link was way too cleaned up, though when it comes down to it it's either about a fully cleaned up or more grainy (is that right) image

Hmph. I don't think it's that bad looking. Once they make it into the jungle, I hardly noticed.

Ya, I saw some of the screenshots and it looked like something you'd see at Madame Tussaud's wax museum.

While the opening scenes with Arnold and Weathers do indeed look waxy, once you're in the helicopter, it's really not that bad.

The transfer is HORRIBLE. They did so much DNR that everything looks like play dough. Here is a good article on how badly they screwed it up. Makes me VERY nervous about what they will do to ALIENS which used a very grainy film stock.

The Digital Bits: Celebrating Film on Disc - DVD & Blu-ray

No DNR for Aliens (and it looks great, btw ;)

Well, I just got the original BluRay release to do some comparisons, and while I hate to admit it, there are details missing in the new transfer and it's not due to just the face value of the grain.

Forget arnold looking like a wax statue, look at what's happening to Carl Weathers when he's going over the mission plan. Not only does he look smoother than most babies do, he's not even sharp around the edges. It's like he's an angel.
