This is only my 2nd post, but rather than search for ages I thought I'd just ask... I'm thinking of making a 1:1 casting of the sword pictured here and was wondering if anyone have some input on it's details length etc

Any input or reference pix would be much appreciated.

Might've overreacted there just a tiny bit man..
But yes, Use the search function. I'm not sure if you're going to get that exact sword but it'll help.
Also, I'd just wing it, say the length is somewhere around 3.5 feet+ the width of the blade can't be more than 6-8mm.
Whatever, these are just rough estimates..
 
No search aversion  o_O just couldn't seem to find much in the way of sword stuff and was more just wondering if anyone had a go at this one already...
Spats do you think that 3.5 is for the blade or the overall length ? I was thinking around 4ft overall.... Thoughts ?
 
I guess it's like an oneandahalf sword. They are about 4.6 foot long.
The blade is about 2.6 - 3.7 foot long.

If i be you, i would measure my arm from the hand to the shoulder, and build the sword with that specs, so when you hold it in your hand it will look in proportion, thats my 2 cents
 
Thanks for the input thus far, my thinking is do I make it to a "Predator (7+ ft Tall)" or human scale ? Maybe some here knows the average height of a predator   I would be betting there is.....
 
The original Predator, Kevin Peter Hall, stood 7'2".  Add the size of the suit, top and bottom, and we would probably be 7'6".  If you read the novels, most are "almost" 8' tall, or just under three meters.
 
I'm with José on this.  I would make it to a scale that fits the particular pred who will be using it.  A good example is the spear I built for my costume.  I'm a "vertically challenged" guy to begin with, so I made the spear smaller than it would nominally be to keep the scale the same.  Carrying around a full length spear would have added to the height issue I already have by making me appear smaller compared to the size of the weapon.  The thing that stands out the most to me when seeing other peoples costumes is whether or not everything is proportionate.  In my opinion, nothing can ruin a look quicker than a fully proportionate pred with great big "clown" feet, or hands that are 2 sizes bigger than everything else.

I may have a problem with that but, i cant be sure until i suit up
 
My opinion is i would not make it any bigger than 3.5 ft you risk making your self look smaller than you are and carrying around big clunky weapons is just odd looking. just my opinion. I like to keep em sleek looking.

If you're referring to parts of the suit being out of proportion, I guess I should clarify a little bit.  If all the pieces are proportionate to each other, I think it looks fine.  What I mean is when say, the feet and head are proportionate, and the hands are way too big.  To me, if one part of the whole package is out of proportion, it tends to draw my eye to it, and from then on I can't help but look.  Remember, this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about those... .  That's why I've kept all my "accessories" on the smallish side, so everything blends together well without any one thing jumping out.

Looks interesting do you have a thread yet ? As to the size, as much as I'd like to, I'm not going to suiting up, but I would like to make a 1:1 scale sculpt one day so I think I'm going to base the sword on that, I've done some scaling looks big but I think it's right.......
