Predator 1 Sculpture.

Here is an update. I know mold making is boring. But to all those out there sculpting heads. You are going to have to get to this point eventually and it helps to see pictures of what is actually done.

For me I am visual learner, which is why I share.

First half done. Notice the Keys, the circles sticking up. Those are made so the two halves lock into each other and do not mis-align. This area is coated before the second half is poured.

Here is the second half coated. The silicone is pink on thios half becuase my distributor sent me a slightly different silicone. Both types are Tin Cure Silicone tso there was no compatibility issues.

Mother mold is made. Notice the 4 protruding sections. Those are clay space holders which will later be removed and poured with silicone. These keys stick up into the mold to hold it in place within themothermold.

Removal of the mothermoth. The clay is also gone as well

Silicone is poured into the little circular spouts. And allowed to set.

The mother mold is again removed. See how the cylinders will stick into the mothermold? Starting to make sense?

I will update more tonite. When I pop open the mold. I am curious to see how the SEAM LINE repair went.

Thanks for looking.

Haha. Mothermoths... I was typing so fast trying to get this posted cuz I am at work all day!

I swear I am the king of weird Typos.

OH man oh man! !
I can't wait to see the first pull ;)
LONG LIVE THE KING...of weird typos!
thank you so muhc for the pics and tut Gene :)

Nice work mate, don't fret about different tints..I often tint the silicone I'm using if doing multiple batches...Lets me know the previous layer has been covered...I also add pieces of cheese cloth or musin to the final layer

Cleaned the mold out right after a few of these to numb the pain.

Its funny how sometimes you make the exact mistake you are trying to avoid. I knew about the massive lock that is created by undercuts in a mold. I thought I had it covered and figured out, BUT NO! I locked the godamn sculpt into the mold/mothermold. The clay is pretty dried out so I can to chip away at the entrie sculpt to free the mold.

I have a plan in place to cut off the LOCKING spots of the mother mold and thicken the silicone, removing the undercut and then add more mothermold back over it.

What a pain in the ass this is. Will be worth it eventually....

You might think of splitting the front jacket in half mate and build a central flange down both side of the split so bath sections come together and but against each other so you can bolt it together...Any jackets ido usually end up as two sections due to undercut issues....but if you split them you can often negate that.

Mav,

I had the same idea. Making a Bridged flange section right up the middle and then cuting it in half.

But I examined the mold and the mothermold. The mold itself is durometer 30 silicone and its pretty thick and holds its shape almost completely by itself.

SO, I opted to just dremel out the specific sections I can see it grabbing. Its mainly around the mandibles then at the tops of the crown. I looked at the total picture and it seems to work. If not I will just resort to pulling latex castings only from this pain in my ass mold.
