Wow, thanks guys.I actually did use the AVP requiem movie book for reference.I just kept the book open the whole time I did the paint up.
I had to foam him more than once at his neck and mouth since I had no experience. After the third time I used a hair dryer to adjust his neck-it was like leaning a little bit to one side. It's hard to tell in the pics but his neck was a little bent in to straighten his head out.the dreads hide it too.
I did layers for the one good eye .I would do the base of the eye and iris, than one layer of liquitex gloss medium.Than the next layer the lines around the iris, another coat of gloss, than a wash of what ever color I decided to use to tie in the lines -heavy on the inside and outside.than I airbrushed the edge of the eye so It doesn't look too defined.Another wash.I kept painting the iris black again because it would make it look deep from all the layers of gloss.Than after the eye was completed I did another 15 layers of gloss(in between 7 I did some more work on the eye for depth) .you have to let each one dry so it doesn't get cloudy.I used a haird dryer to speed up the process. It's takes too long.I got this eye painting tip from a mask painter. I also never used epoxy glue before for the eyes so I ended up making them a little too thick.I should of used alot less than added if needed.the right eye I painted it quicklt black and than added a thin wash of white to cover over the eye so it was transparent.than I shaded around the edges a little.Overall the eyes came okay,if i looked really close to at them they would look messy.Next time I will try a different process. On youtube there is a quick painting of the eye done by Jordu schell that looks amazing. He's just a sick fx artist.
The dots on his head I did over twice because the first time I used a brush but they looked too fake.I did it again but after I brushed a little dot ,I used an airbrush to go over it .than I did a light cvoat of skin color over it so it looked a little deep.I did a couple of coats of of a sealer made of liquitex gloss med/matt medium and water.that way if I made a mistake I could wipe it away without taking the base paint off.Biggest thing with latex painting- not too much room to fix errors without painting all over again. That's why I also made more than enough paint when I mixed them up.
The best thing I experimented with is the veins inside the mouth.I used liquitex gloss gell and brushed the veins in-added depth.than I watered down a pink latex based paint and lightly airbrushed over it do give it the under the skin look.
I used liquitex paints mixed with a latex base for all the large parts.than FW inks thinned or kitbuilders freestyle paint with 99%alcohol .I have experience with airbrushing model kits but mask painting is alot harder. It's a great challenge to try to make it look realistic.I think I spent a month alone going through these boards, the effects lab and asking mask painters questions on techniques.
