PepaKura or Clay for build?

Now that i've gathered most of the info for my IM build i have a decision to make. and since this part of the process is new to me--I'll check with you Gurus.

1. use the Pepakura files and paste and bondo till my fingers bleed
2. mold with clay on a dress form

Pepakura: As a graphic artist i have everything at my disposal without costs (minus the hardening compounds) for the pepakura build...papers, printers, xactos...etc..
the down side: Im on a mac without access to the "viewer" window to see how the parts go together with each other....like looking at 1000 puzzle pieces and not knowing which piece goes where. I've also never detailed in bondo so not sure how hard that will be.

Clay mold on torso: I can detail the hell out out scale models so the detailing in the clay mold shouldn't be an issue...the downside...I've never sculpted with clay, fired or made a mold....

I also have access to another artist who paints and details cars. so the final build will have a show room paint job.

any suggestions the route I should take for the actual build?

Pepakura Viewer and Designer work on Mac. You simply need to install Parallels, Virtual Box or any other program that allows u to boot windows. I run windows in coherence mode. I only see the program using and all that other windows stuff is hidden.

Why does it have to be one or the other, I like using both mediums. Use the pepakura as a base to sculpt on and then just create a mold from that.

it all depends on your budget. clay can get expensive quick but 2 reams of cardstock should be enough to get you all built up. there are pros and cons either way go with what you will enjoy the most. or like everyone else said try both

my macbook is low on space and i don't want to risk installing it on my work computer. If it runs smoothly for you I might try it though.

I think I am going to try and mix them.
For now I am going to try the helmet. I went out this evening and bought a styrofoam head. it was slightly smaller than mine so i built it up with padding and duct tape. im going to work on top of that with clay..
in the meantime all the "abdomen" pieces are printed out as well

question- for your wearable helmets how does it go on? from a cut in the back that hinges or do they just slip right over your head?

thanks again Im so stoked. I hope I have it ready for DC next year!

thanks again.
