Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

20 dollar DX

Nice progress everybody.

Finally got a frame, after all this time. I got it for 20 bucks out of the bottom of a pile of frames (and boy did I have to dig) at the big Currie bicycle estate sale in October.

20 Dollar DX. Can't beat that.

I even like the rust.

You can use a surfacing primer after you either sand blast or dip it.
great price. Does it have the front mounting tab for the chainguard? You can always solder/weld one on.

great deal for a 20. id blast it but wouldnt worry to much about pitting unless it was real bad..look at the movie pic bikes...just ratty and spray bombed to look good on camera. on my x1 not only does the spray bombing and slight pitting look more movie correct, it still has the look of a old bike..a really really pristine PW bike jus doesnt look right to me..a couple cans of rustoleum sunrise red was what i used. i wanted mine to look like Pee Wee rolled it out of his bushes 25 years later. i know ive pulled it off as ive heard non PW knowing people look at it and go "wow look at that old Schwinn" not heyd you get that at Target?

I'm curious what color the red is exactly. Getting the details together for my painter. I said candy apple, but I want to make sure before he does anything.

Candy apple red would be wrong because, if I'm not mistaken, that would be a silver base coat with red-tinted clear shot over it to give it depth. The Pee Wee bike is a single stage red enamel. On my bike, I had the frame powder coated in Mirror Red and the fenders and fiberglass parts painted with PlastiKote Swift Red rattle can spray paint. I've never seen the movie bike in real life so it's possible thr somebody else can make a better suggestion.

It's definitely not a candy, I don't think you can powder coat a candy anyway. I'd describe it as more of a fire engine red.

ya i think a fire engine red is the correct color..gonna need a paint chip and have a body shop shoot that thing on it that tells them how to mix the color correct...

Haha cool. Is that a smoking pipe on the side of that thing?

*Edit, nevermind, guess you deleted it...

Made some progress on my bicycle last week. Started fabricating the chaingaurd out of aluminum sheet. Cut out most the pieces... Have some grinding and metalwork to do.. Still havent fabricated the bracket, but one step closer in the right direction...

hahaha..that bikes not far from me, they kept posting it on Craigslist for like 1500 or something. my friend showed me and i was like WhAAAt? and we both cracked up big time..i was tempted to post on CL that it was FAR from being Pee-wees bike..

chainguard looks great and similar to mine..tig down the seam. i just did the screenshot tracings of the arrow and sticks also for mine to cut out of aluminum and replace the simulated white painted one i have..

got my siren mounted up, Abe took your blueprint and simplified it ..ya not hollywood bike correct but i noticed looking at differant shots for placement it appears differant or mounted differant in a few..made from aluminum for easier shaping around the truss rod. need to find a more suitable rubber wheel as for now im using a Volkswagen lug bolt cover.

That siren looks great, good job! For the rubber, check the hardware store for the large rubber tub stoppers, that might be a close one.

thanks and thanks on the tip! hardware store right down the seat so ill see whats available..but ya never thought of that. i have a little wants list if anyone has extras
large 4" or 3.5" mirror and a more correct aluminum switch box. thanks.
