Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

Your wife's DX turned out really nice, Abe. I love the color combo... Been trying to figure out what color to paint my other DX once im done with my PeeWee bike... I think i am going with black and cream. Also, that rear bag looks great with the fin mounted... Its cool to see these bikes come together... Also, great progress on your bike Ruddigger, I cant wait to get my X-1 all painted up like yours.

Another small update. I got my NOS shifter in the mail, so that's installed. I also got my headlight working and mounted to the fender. The red brake tubing is now running from the button box as well. At this point the only things left to mount on the handlebars are the mirrors and the tiger. I still haven't found decent mirrors though.

anyone know what the clip that holds the tiger siren microphone looks like? noticed it mounted on side of siren in some pics and on the bars in others, i want to mount mine on the bars. bikes and progress all looking awesome guys.

A look through my photo album of the Hollywood bike didn't turn up any good pictures of that clip. In fact, the best one I have is the one at the top of this page.

I took my bike out for a ride last Friday, I got quite a few odd looks. ;) I would recommend that anybody who is going to actually ride this bike remove the head of the black tank button first. I basically snapped it off as soon as I sat down on the thing, it's right where your knee goes. :/ Guess it's not had to figure out why the Hollywood bike is broken in exactly the same way, I had to superglue it back on. And now, for a superfluous picture from riding around town.

haha ya i guess i looked right over that pic of the mic hookup..wait till you get bags etc all mounted..mine is like riding a tank and feels like it weighs 300 pounds..used to carry it around to places on my rooftop rack when i was at your stage but now im afraid off snapping the carrier off my roof..youll also find yourself accidently kicking the sidebags as you pedal.

Guys, I have images of the clip, I was going to get some made for when I sell the tiger heads. PM if you need an image.
BTW Ed has some of the castings, I think I may be helping on the clear bubble.
Also PM if your waiting on a tiger head siren.

Guys I laced a Shimano Nexus 3 to a Schwinn S2 wheel, I would recommend an Nexus 7 (coaster brake) though- That's if you haven't found a set of CMC wheels.
If you use a vintage shimano or bendix 3, you can actually connect the Shimano 3 speed shifter that is on the bars. I actually had one and sold it would think about that. o well, I got CMC wheels anyhow :)

Also I have to weigh my wife's DX, that one is a stock build, I think it's close to 50lbs, it's got the 3 speed though, she says her Monark is a bit lighter and easier to ride.

I thought about running a three speed through the shifter, but I don't want to run the wire back since the movie bike didn't have it. Nitpicking, I know, since the movie bike didn't have an automatic Bendix hub either, but still...

Judging by that last picture, it looks like you are in Southern California? We are too! It would be cool to meet up at some point - I love the bike!

This thread has inspired me to make a bike for myself. In addition to the playhouse project I'm currently working on.

But I was curious to know if anyone would be willing to sell me a casting of the saddle bags or Top container. Or possible trade, I have a spare Tiger siren!

I guess you can say I'm still working out the bugs on getting the bags together.
I was having a hell of a time trying to hinge the bags and make the lids match up. Also it's hard to tell if the hinges are buried into the lid or on top, I've been trying to hide them under.
Then there is also the issue of day job,, I like my job and when it's busy it's busy!!

To have the bags hinge open to store your thirty feet of link chain?
Or the hinges them self? From the movie the hinge seems to just sit on top.

That picture shows the latch, not the hinge. That latch is available for about 3 bucks on Amazon, there is a link somewhere in the thread. Nice screen capture though!

*Edit*
Maybe a swing away hinge like this would help?

well you can see the hinge inside the open door, and yes to make the saddlebags usable.
I have the out side latches, that's no problem.

Yes, that newly added second picture is much better. You can clearly see the two small hinges. Nice capture.

thanks to Abelugos specs i got some Pee wee plates made up, gotta mess with the mounting to be more movie correct but i think its looks cool..twisted the seat to make it more visible for shot

my fat butt x1..gonna redo my rear bags after the holidays to slim and shape them more correctly
