Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

My wife gave me this 1964 Sears Spaceliner for our anniversary a couple weeks ago, it doesn't have the correct Spaceliner seat but check out the seat that it came with. Yep, it's the one that is correct for the Pee Wee bike. I already have the correct Pee Wee seat on my DX so I'll be making this one available for sale as soon as I find a black Spaceliner seat. (Unless somebody wants to trade an old DX tank for it, or a plastic or fiberglass replica tank.)

Those spaceliners are cool looking. I was looking at some build ups of them over on ratrodbikes.

I made more progress today. Totally stripped the frame of the old paint, bondoed up and sanded down the tank to get rid of the dings, and stripped and bondoed the front fender.

my chainguard painted and pee wee house snowman..also realized i have the same robot that is on the wall behind pee wee in the breakfast scene..

Holy smokes, that chain guard looks nice. Although I was looking at Jaime's photos, and it seems like on the real bike the white "arrow" is a piece of plastic that was glued on, and the red lines that go through it are popsicle stick looking things that are painted red and glued on top of that. Can anyone confirm this?

Lol, of course. What i was asking was if anyone can tell me for sure that thearrow is glued on and not painted. It's obvious that the popsicle sticks are glued on, but it's harder to tell with the arrow.

thanks on the chainguard..i noticed the arrow is seperate..best views i get are the pics from museum you guys post up as i dont have access to it..over winter i plan on redoing the arrow to make it more correct..finally got a lot of other projects finished up so today im making my skirt templates..Abe yours look like they will be awesome and thanks for that pic a bit back..gonna help me a lot with mine.

Guys I'm pretty sure the little hash marks are separate from the arrow but do not touch the surface of the chaingard, the only hit the arrow in the center.

BTW we went back to the musuem and got more pics, the rear skirts are made up of separate pieces tack welded together from behind. Lind like the aluminum chainguard was made.

That's exactly right. I went to the museum on Friday to have a look. Another thing I never noticed from the pictures was that the left part of the "arrow" applique is painted red behind the last "popsicle stick."

Did you end up going to the cycle swap today Abe?

went to the cycle swap, got a another set of Wald 898 handlebars and some extra mesingers- I really need some 14 guage 270mm spokes for my wife's DX. After that we were beat and went home.
Stuff you can get at the swap at a decent price are the messinger seats, union pedals, some hardware like headsets and set posts, The sell that ususally brings a lot of frames didn't bring and just complete bikes, I didn't see any camelback DX's.

The fender guy doesn't seem to have a set price for rolling fenders but I did get his info, he's in gardena.

The heat was brutal out here, I don't envy you walking around on blacktop on a day like today. Sounds like you had some good finds, but what are you going to do with all of the extra Mesingers? As for the fender rolling, my fenders are pretty straight, just a few low spots, but I've been working on them, and I have the front one pretty smooth already. Hopefully I can have the whole bike painted on my next days off. (Wednesday/Thursday)

Any progress on your end?

been busy, had work-weekend also!!
we went really pretty early to the swap abut 7:30 to 9:30am
I'm cleaning one of the mesingers up and sending it to the Bike Musuem of America, for their X1 bike with the incorrect seat.

Yeah, I was suppose to sent them a seat I did not quite get to it yet, but if you are going to Abe I don't want to stop you I will just figure out something else to donate to the bike...:unsure

Sooooooo Abe,.... Where are the measurements that you got from the museum are you holding out on us????

:darnkids

Am I mistaken, or is the Hollywood bike missing the correct seat as well? It has silver springs instead of black, and there was no rear oval or side triangle markings that I could see. I wonder if they care enough about it to correct it.

yup the hollywood bike does have the wrong seat. But that seat it's got is another style of Mesinger seat. The wheels on the Hollywood bike are CMC 26x2.1215, it's on the rim next to the valve stem. I've only found set like that so far.

I did get some measurements but I've noticed not all of them being so accurate. I've slowly posted some of it. Part of the reason I have not posted it all in one place, is so we don't get another set of DB NYC builders coming it and you know how that goes.. Did you see the episode of ********* Money, Dirty Money on Discovery. That is all I'll say of that.

Jaime, I am sending the seat to them.
PM me for any measurement you may need.

BTW I also saw 2 sets of nice correct Lightning Darts this weekend for 50.00, which is great price for these tires.

Wow, I wish you would have bought those lightning darts!

I uploaded my mostly fuzzy pictures from the Hollywood Museum. i dont know how much more helpful they will be, but in the interest of shared knowledge I'll add the link here.

And here is a picture of the "arrow" on the chain guard. You can see that its a cut out with the short popsicle stick things glued on top, and the left side has been painted red.
