Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

I desperately need some help with the handlebars and grips. I ended up getting donkey grips off eBay, listed as fitting 7/8". I also ordered Wald 898 from Amazon, however, they don't seem to fit (grips are too large). Every distributor for Wald 898 says it's 1" -- if anything, I'd think that the grips would just fit too snug, but they're huge. Do they make different sizes of the Wald 898, or did I purchase the wrong size grips? The grips also did not come with a hole for the streamers, however, I was able to punch a hole out easily with a leather punch.

Whoops! Nevermind. It looks like 1 of the 2 grips I got are different diameter because they’re meant for a throttle. If anyone knows where I can get two of the same, please let me know!
I bought mine off ebay , don't remember who, but he had an option to buy a pair of the smaller size grips , if you had told them that you were putting them on bicycle handlebars and not a motorcycle , I'm sure they would have sold you a pair .

If it's the same guy, he may not have enough anymore for this option sadly, I had messaged him after I bought the second pair. I'll probably go the electrical tape route!

Does anyone still have their patterns for the chain guard and skirt guards? The stuff from BigAdventureBikes looks incredible, but it seems the shop has been down for a break since January.

It'd be great to have an open repository for all of the components so that they are freely available for others to make.. A lot of the images in this thread are now dead. The tiger head is so rare, and when it does pop up it goes for a mint, it doesn't seem fair to gatekeep it. If I find one or get one in my hands, I promise to make it freely available for others. This is my first venture into prop making so I don't know if this is typically against the culture or not.

I began modeling a saddlebag based off reference images from the various museums. I own an Ender 5 Plus which has a pretty large print bed, although it is annoying to have to print stuff for several days so I am going to try cutting up the model. For other stuff, my plan is to use a cricut to get the exact shape of the chain guard and skirt guards in chipboard format in order to bring to a metal fabricator to trace vs cutting out of cardboard. I've looked into laser cutters but they are way out of my budget right now.

I salute everyone who started doing this before 3d printers and all these references were widely available. The passion and dedication is truly inspiring and I hope one day to have a completed X1 build myself.

I agree, peeweehermes. I've gone through the thread in the past few months since I have started a build, and many of the early links / pics are gone (which is bound to happen, since the thread is about 15 years old.) I started putting together a PDF guide for the bike, but I would need help from the experts to check it for accuracy, plus I don't know where to store it on the RPF, maybe Resources. Literally from the chainguard to the back of the bike is the hardest part to tackle. I was thinking of printing the saddlebags as well, though fiber glassing them is also tempting. By the way, there is a tiger and housing out there on Thingiverse. Not super accurate, but a decent start. Also, PeeWeeFan shared the decals for it on page 219.

I started a website to collect all the PWH info in one spot ( itsnotforsalefrancis.com ) but haven’t done much with it yet.

Also I have my spare bike listed:

I've started a new method for creating the tiger head. I'm actually surprised it's working as well as it is so far, but basically, I download a video of someone with the tiger head, scrub through it taking multiple screenshots per angle, then matte out the background (mostly by hand) and run it through photogrammetry software. This was created using just 40 photos, I still have about 100 to go but I am making good progress. Much better and more precise than my attempts to model by hand or with clay. The next best thing (besides actually owning one..) would be taking a trip to one of the museums and using the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone to take some scans of the real deal.

I machined one out of aluminum, then molded and cast it in resin. I still have the mold, so let me know if you need one.

RBJ - thank you for the list! This will be extremely helpful to all the new builders such as myself. I may have missed it, but I am assuming the fender skirts and chain guard are custom? As well as the two shapes added to the chain guard?

Has anyone added sound effects to their bike? And if so, what did you use to generate them? I was thinking since there are at least 4-5 buttons on the bike, you could have an individual quote or scene from the movie, and maybe one button just to assign random effects.

What are people using for wheels, got a set but I feel like the spacing is off.

Could probably go with a thinner jam nut..but if you can get that in the form as is it would give plenty of room for the hypnodiscs
