Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

I'm not sure what you mean by plastic plated, as there is no plastic in the chrome or the bags, but it plated through the SpectraChrome process, which has real silver metal sandwiched between multiple layers of paint.

You can see how it's done here:

Like Rudd said, when they spray it on it goes everywhere, so it's best to spray on the chrome first then mask it off for paint.

There are places all over the country that do it, so I'm sure you could find a vendor near you.

I meant they can actually chrome plate plastic and fiberglass pieces for newer cars and motorcycles, dash trim, grilles, etc, they do it for model kits also, I thought that's what Ruddigger was referring to, the spray on chrome or "spectrachrome" was what I was talking about, I just didn't know what they actually called it, and Yes, that process has been around for a while now, and there a lot of shops doing it, it's neat to actually see something done that I'm so familiar with.

Yeah, I was talking about the chroming that is done for plastic parts. Fiberglass resin is plastic, it contains Styrene. The chroming that they do for plastic parts like on C3PO's and Terminator skeletons is like that. It atomizes it onto the part, goes on everything. The paint method is different.

I have a couple parts on another bike that I need to get plastic chromed. Seems there are a ton of places doing it online, so hopefully they are competitive. Any suggestions, Ryan?

If they're metal parts you should take them to a traditional chromer. I havent looked into the guys who chrome plastic too much, because I'm going with the tape method. I'm sure the C3PO or T-800 guys could point you somewhere.

This place in PA does it. They spray a copper paint, then atomize the nickel and chrome to the copper paint, which is how it's traditionally done on plastic parts. http://www.paulschrome.com/index.php/what-we-do/we-chrome-plastic

Interesting process. Yeah, the parts I need done are plastic. One is a tank light hood & the other is a chain sprocket hub cap. Thanks for the link. I'll shoot them a message to see if they can help out. It's funny that at the grocery store I can buy plastic chrome silverware for a couple bucks, but usually re-chroming anything (plastic or metal) costs an arm & a leg.

Thanks man! I can't wait either. Now to gather up all my blueprints and photos from the various bikes and take them to my paint guy. :) That should be sometime this week...and I should probably have them back the following week.

Quick question on the chain guard. Did you the hollywood bike actually have a chrome plated metal piece or use chrome tape on it?

All of them if I recall had chrome tape. I know for a fact the others I've documented have. I didn't look at that specifically on the Hollywood Museum bike.

Here ya go ;)

"we did a hollywood ride with the La Explorers club. It was fun untill part of the stopped at the Hollywood Scientology Celebrity Center."

Ha! Did you let Tom Cruise ride the X1?

I'd be careful guys!, Xenu will abduct you in his DC-8, fly you to a volcano, stack you up around it and blow you up with hydrogen bombs!, turning YOU into Thetans, for your blasphemy! of course, the upside is, you can adhere yourself to Tom Cruise and cause him spiritual harm.
