Well, that Japanese dude seems to have finished the papercraft C-3PO model. Seems like it'd be kinda nifty to print out, enlarge, make out of cardboard, harden the cardboard with Minwax Wood Hardener, fill with foam, layer on lots of bondo..... At least, might be a good, cheap (EXTREMELY labor intensive) way to start out some of the other protocol droids... If you had gobs and gobs of time, but little budget.

Those papercraft artists can be pretty amazing sometimes, can't they? I love that stuff!!! :cool

No lie! I've got I dunno how many gigs of downloaded paper models.... And I don't think I've finished any yet. :lol I think partially it's "wow, could I really get it to look like that?" and partially just preferring something a bit more solid.

A friend (Blair) has done an amazing series of props out of cardboard, so I know it can be done (Rocketeer helmet and rocket pack, Captain Proton (after Commando Cody) style rocket pack, classic phaser rifle, I dunno how many ray guns and blasters....) I've done a few myself, including the pilot episode flight harness from Space:Above and Beyond. Still haven't found the right thing for the real thing.... But the cardboard one did turn out pretty well (he said modestly :angel).

But with a halfway decent printer, a few scissors, exacto, ruler, time and glue, you can make some pretty cool stuff for free, even though it may not be the most robust.

There were some guys in the States doing these too. They had the Silent Running drones, SW ships, LOTS of stuff. But their link went dead. I only ever got the Drones.

They are amazing.

That's amazing!!

Does anyone know of a place to find pictures of the droidekas that they made for bookstore TPM promotions--before they're constructed, that is? This threepio reminds me of that. I've been wanting to replicate the cardboard kit, but I've been unable to find pics of the pattern.

Nice, really. And his nickname kind of points to his glue sniffer hobby ;)

The glue sticks are kind of famous amongst SW figure collectors because of the italian ewok + glue stick package, but I didn´t know that even in Japan UHU is known as a glue brand ?!

Might be a conincidence, though.

I'm excited, and going to get my hands dirty on doing a life-size 3PO head from these patterns. It will be for a fan-film and does not have to be screen-accurate to the C-3PO, but a make-belief model from the same fictional manufacturer would do.

Can anyone give me a base measurement that I could scale from? I would prefer head width or height.

Seems like he is limiting the download times of his stuff ?! The C-3PO can´t be downloaded anymore, and the K won´t be downloadable after 02/27 12 pm, so hurry up !

Wow, that kinda blows! I was wondering about that. There's something about Daimajin (?), and the 2001 EVA pod that aren't downloadable currently. I guess that kinda explains it.

There's also something on, well, I'm not seeing it now, but somewhere on his site there's something about "library" and "password." But since there are no obvious links, and I don't speak/read Japanese, I don't know what the heck that's all about.

You should see the Tumbler and Delorean papermodels, the Delorean even has a complete interior with pedals!

I have a whole folder of these... everything from a TOS Comm to the main bike from Akira.

How about I just upload some? Most of them are hosted on Japanese sites, and certain ones are hard to track down. A lot of them are torrented, many more are independant releases where the creator has no webspace.
