U-3PO has a weird butt

How's that for a title?
I was doing some 3PO costume research and observed this about the silver droid behind him at the start of ANH.
At first I thought he might be wearing a different butt piece altogether, maybe even a Stormtrooper part, but I've finally concluded the legs of the shorts that should be tucked into the thighs are somehow hanging OVER them.

I noticed that recently too, I wondered if it was a mistake or if the actor was not as slim as AD and that was the best fit they could get.

Yep, good catch. The ANH shorts were vac-formed plastic, so an easy modification for easy walking!

Something about the posture of the actor wearing the costume seems to me to indicate either a guy with a bigger belly or a woman where the front pieces of the costume curve forward because she’s curvier on the front.

There are a couple points in Star Wars where you clearly see C-3PO shuffling along with his shorts hanging over his legs. Most obvious when you see the video rather than a still.

Or with his eye light bulb wire dangling on the outside.

Not to mention the monstrosity that his ass and crotch are during the "droids you're looking for" scene - it's all swaddled in foil tape!

I seem to recall reading Anthony Daniels saying in an interview that his droid compatriot in that scene was played by a woman.
