Pacific Rim Pilots - attaching exoskeleton and undersuit

So, as some may have gathered, I'm working on a pair of Pacific Rim pilot suits. As part of the design/planning process, I'm putting together a progress book with references and everything. (Mostly also so I'll have something to show at the upcoming RPF prop party in Toronto!)

While looking at hi res photos I noticed a lot of pieces aren't attached to each other, but rather to the undersuit somehow. (Got these from another thread here. I think somebody posted to Eduardo's thread)

See how the armor bits aren't really touching each other? Any suggestions how I can attach these to the spandex suits I'm going to be making?

You need to plan it well, and sew on velcro (Id recommend the fuzzy side) to the spandex (probably before sewing the entire suit together) Then the other hook side to the Armour piece.

Looking forward to seeing this stuff at the Prop party, Drift suits are on the list for me and my girlfriend as well.

A lot of those types of suits use spandex clothing with things like T-nuts or fiberglass sections with posts on them. I know for the Iron Man chest stuff, they used a harness/corset and for Elysium, it was a lot of spandex with T-nuts.

MAGNETS O: You could hand sew little pockets for magnets to the body suit, then glue them to the underside of the armor. Or the hook idea works, too. I just really love magnets...

How does that work? Add T-nuts to underside of armor and...bolt it to my butt? :lol I watched a video on how to use them to join two pieces of wood, but still don't understand how it applies to armor.

I looked at photos in this thread but it seems to be joining pieces that touch. Although there are some, there are also floaty pieces like that bum plate. Sure I can attach it to the thigh, but what prevents it from flopping/falling on the other side?
