P2 Closed Mouth Build. Raw Latex 1St Pull P24 24/11/11

Well i cracked the mould open, and all looks good on the back, i managed to break 3 big locating lugs, due to........ believe it or not the mould opening easier than i expected. i taped in my screw driver, lent on it and the rear literally popped off, causing 3 lugs to break due to the angle i was pushing lol.
I have super glued them back on and will widen the locater holes tomorrow possibly, but the small groove locaters are all fine so it does not really matter if the big lugs fall off or not.
The pic below gives a good idea of the sculpt was coverd on the front side, i would say its pretty close to 2/3rds of the sculpt was moulded 1st due to the shape and detail placement, and my desire to hide the seam line as much as possible.
anyway , the next week or so involves me back in work, so i shall be cleaning this out a hour or so a night i guess. next pics will be of cleaned mould, prioer to the fun of mask pouring.

nice work there, actually a very helpful insight to the whole moulding process. Did you use WED clay as you divided line and for the lugs?

Yeah i used WED for thedividing wall and lugs, due to where i was positioning the dividing line i actuallyused shims, the put a layer of wed over the top. ( due to me not having as much salvaged WED from my torso sculpt as i thought )
I dare say i will have a few bubbles to fill on the front of the mould, but the rear is perfect apart from the circle that surrounds my initials breaking off alittle at the top, which is neither a issue or anythign to do with the look of the mask lol.

I can not wait to see this painted up. Nothing like cracking open a mold and see the hard work pay off in a good mold. What is the UK equivalent plaster that you spoke of? You said it isnt actualy called ultracal?
Brad should chime in here, he figured out what the exact mixture ratio of ultracal is.

Dude, no thinking just do it, this mask is well worth it. I am already camping outside his house waiting for one lol
as always i am willing to share my mistakes, so here we go.
i THINK i made the quill holes too long, as whilst digging out the clay i lost approx 75% of them ( they came off with the clay ) , either that or the UK cold weather made the clay so hard as to grip on to them to tight, grrrr.
solution, as i removed the clay i marked each missing quill spike with a pencil mark, once all the clay is out and the few air bubbles have been repaired, i will DRILL the quill holes, then super glue cut down tooth picks in them, so giving the holes again, my only concern is the latex stickin to them , so i think i may look for some plastic ones, or just varnish the picks.
not a big issue, but i thought i would explain my devious plan to fix lol.
oh , if anyone has any better ideas, please feel free to advise

Nice idea, would never have thought of that. Thanks for sharing, would have been 'up to my head in it' with that issue if that was me, great solution.
