P2 Bio Helmet Repaint

Here is another one I have been meaning to do for awhile but waited to finish other things first. I'm still not 100% happy with it but I think it's better than it was. Damn P2 colours eluding me yet again lol. Might even end up repainting it again in the future, who knows. Thanks for looking.  :)

Looks good to me man! Pretty close color from looking at the pics! Love the weathering to Mike.

Yea deffo close. The best shot I saw of the color for the Bio was in the scene where Danny Glover unmasks the predator. You can see the copper and bronze mix. It's a weird reddish coppery goldy bronze. How they did it god knows. I wish the guy who actually painted it would come on here and tell us.

But then quite often things can look really great on camera but look totally gash in real life. eg My P2 pics look a lot more coppery than I actually painted it.

Cheers guys, thanks a lot. Yeah predatoj Its a pain to get right. Luckily I have found the right colours to blend together. Dry brushing Emperor's gold with copper really gives it a nice 2 tone colour change in the light. The third picture really shows off the colour better. Even though my phone camera isn't great it looks more true like in person.   :)

mmm. I'm thinking of painting my next one. Cold casting metal looks great, but your stuck with one tone, it's tricky painting on top of it because there's no way to 'prime' the surface because that IS the finish, then you have to seal it which loses the metal finish.

Even though the film bio was painted I can't help think it looks plated. Look closely at that scene when he takes the bio off. Its all chipped off. To get like that with paint you would need a heat gun. But like **** am I gonna take one to my bio that's painted. It will turn out a right mess lol

Agreed. I'm still not convinced it's painted. I've never come across a paint that looks like that. I believe they had a in-house plating system. A friend of mine who works in the industry told me on AVP they did it using cold casting.

Don't know about P2 but that Hero Bio wasn't painted imo.

Thing is we will never know unless we can talk to the people who painted the bios on P2. Someone must know someone lol.

I could ask the StanWinstonSchool lol. I've an account with them, Probably wouldn't get back to me though.

I have spoken to reps from sws, adi and even Knb in the past and they all use different methods to achieve a good metal look. Now a days it is mostly paint and cold casting which would make things to be more cost affective but back then they would have used whatever would get the job done. If they had to plate something they would. I have seen a couple of film used bios at london prop store and they are definitely just painted.
