Harry Potter series -
The first HP film was OK, but as as the stories piled up it gets more and more pointless. Despite the praises that RK Rowling gets I think she really has no idea how to properly use the monomyth storytelling template or how to conclude or execute an effective character arc.
The first film supposedly establishes Harry as the "chosen one" who is destined for greatness, however, through the past 6 films Harry's character arc has come to a complete halt. His journey to greatness has gone nowhere (It seems Hermione is the only one out of their group who has talent with wizardry) while Harry and Ron are always portrayed as the typical bufoonish guys who always screw up a spell or always need to be rescued.
You would think after so many years at Hogwarts Harry's skills would have improved and he would at least start to show characteristics of the person he is destined to be.
Also, each installment seems to derail from the main purpose (or is loosely associated with it), and always goes off course on some wild quest while the main storyline (dealing with Voldemort) gets pushed aside as filler. Long detailed elements, which hold little interest are placed, center stage....Like sports matches or competitions. Apparently the only thing Harry seems to be somewhat good at is wizard sports.
I really think Rowling is trying to outdo JRR Tolkein's LOTR saga, and in the process has made a convoluted mess.
