overrated or underrated

What movies or shows have you seen that everyone seems to like, and after you saw it you disliked? or the other way around, most people dislike a certain show or movie, and you personally enjoyed?

For me, I can now say that I've seen all the Star Trek TNG cast films, and I must say despite most reviews They get, I enjoyed them. (ok, yeah. I still dislike Nemesis)

And despite how a lot of people like Nolan Batman, I don't ever want to commit a couple hours of my time to those films again. I'm seriously doubting I'll see the third one.

ok your turn.

My picks:

Overrated:
Inception
LOST
Dawn of the Dead (remake)
Halloween (remake)
Avatar
Desperate Housewives
Star Trek (Abrams)

Underrated:
Ghosts of Mars
Manhunter (the first adaptation of any book involving Hannibal Lector, directed by Michael Mann)
Grindhouse (yes, there are those that hated all of it or just one of the "films". I happen to like the whole Grindhouse experience.)
Caprica (just when it was getting good and picking up the pace, too)
Battlestar Galactica (the newer series, and this is primarily from most of my classmates who only saw it as "science fiction" instead of a human drama set within a science-fiction world. The funny thing is that those who were greatly opposed to it finally watched it, came up to me and told me I was right about how amazing it was. And I take into account that it is greatly appreciated by Sci-Fi enthusiasts).
Vanishing Point (yes, I've come across those that didn't appreciate this one)
Maximum Overdrive
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (I cannot tell you how many posts over at the IMDb forum slam this film, most of them spurn from the film's failure caused by being put head-to-head with The Expendables. Frankly, I love this movie and I feel it would have done better if it hadn't been released the same weekend as The Expendables)

When has this ever been called underrated?

Trust me, there are those who have seen it and complain about how unlike "Silence of the Lambs" it is (the same thing is also true with Hannibal and Hannibal Rising). And there's those that don't even know the film exists (same thing with Vanishing Point).

I think you're confused about how this thread works.

Overrated:

The Goonies
Army of Darkness
Home Alone
Braveheart
Inception
Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Whatever the hell it was called.
Star Trek IV: The Sitcom

Underrated:
The 13th Warrior

No, I'm not confused. Thread is to cover films you liked that others didn't and films others liked that you didn't.

I said there were those that saw it and complained about how it wasn't like "Silence of the Lambs." People who often complain about something do it for things they disliked severely. My posting of "Manhunter" is within the topic because people who seen it disliked it, thus leading them to complain to the point of comparing it to "Silence of the Lambs," while I personally love it.

Underrated:
The 13th Warrior

That one is actually a good one. I actually found it somewhat enjoyable.

Underrated:
Scott Pilgrim
Rocketeer
Sky Captain

Disney obviously doesn't have any idea on what they consider a "Box Office Bomb." They weren't satisfied with the numbers that The Rocketeer received the same way they were with TRON.

As for Sky Captain... I can't really comment about that, as I haven't seen it in a long time. But I do remember some of the visuals, and is another one of those examples of the Digital Backlot concept that eventually everyone became aware of due to Sin City.

I definitely agree with your underrated list, and your overrated list.

OVERRATED
-Any Christopher Nolan film. Batman Begins was mostly terrible, Dark Knight was saved by Heath Ledger's performance. Inception was just plain boring.

-Christopher Reeve as Superman. It was 30 years ago, move on.

-Avatar. I hesitate to put it on the list, as I really don't see it rated that highly anyway.

-Quentin Tarantino films - other than Resevoir Dogs and Inglorious Basterds. Just don't get it - they might be more passable if they were edited a bit better and in a timeline that makes more sense.

UNDERRATED
-Donnie Darko. Everytime I watch this film I'm awed by it.

-Scott Pilgrim

-Battlestar Galactica. Simply the best television program I've ever watched, then ending was perfect to my eyes.

-The Star Wars prequels. I think the biggest problem most folks have with these films is they aren't 10 years old anymore and they can't see the movies through a kids eyes... and we've been there before and as they say, you can't go home again. Yes, they have some issues, but I think they stand up pretty well - and the 6 year old nephew agrees.

Overrated:

Spiderman 2
The Walking Dead
Nightmare on Elm Street (original)
Predator
No Country for Old Men
The 5th Element
Stargate (TV)
The Empire Strikes Back

Underrated:
Moon
Ultraviolet (UK vampire show, not terrible Milla movie)
28 Weeks Later
Shutter Island
Inglourious Basterds
Being Human (UK)
Burn After Reading
Coraline

Apart from Gwyneth Poultry's appalling acting and Jude Law being a milquetoast It contained just about every front cover from thirties pulp and sf magazines in there somewhere.......oh and Ms Jolie in an eyepatch. Which is no bad thing.

Avatar is Dances with wolves with smurfs.
Inception has lots of layers, but all of them below my boredom threshold.

Oh and also underrated:

Watchmen

Overrated:
-Nu Trek
-Avatar
-Batman Begins
-Inception
-Kill Bill (both)
-Lost
-CSI (any version)
-Glee
-Friends
-Desperate Housewives
-24
-Stargate (both the film and the shows)
-ER
-Anything starring Angelina Jolie
-Anything starring Julia Roberts

Underrated:
-Arrested Development
-Star Trek Generations (gets panned but it's my favourite TNG film)
-Quantum of Solace (sure it's Bourne but it had some great scenes)
-The Outer Limits (90's series)
-Sliders (first 3 seasons)
