Original movie: Clash Of The Titans...my Bubo Owl replica

It's coming along nicely. That's a good idea about the eyes too. Keep up the good work! :thumbsup

Mine arrived and I love it! Especially for $13!!!! Also going to customize a bit.

Sweet bro! Don't forget to post pics of your work in progress; would love to see the final product.:cool This is just a thought but how about we start a thread for a Bubo conversion photo contest just for fun??? I just thought it would be cool to see eveyones pics of their version of Bubo. WDYT???

It looks amazing, really great work.

Do these have any moving parts? head, wings etc or are they a static prop?

Hey C.V. This is really a wearable costume prop so it's a static piece. However, for the price you can't go wrong. Check out the web link in the previous reply I left Mantis at the top of this thread. Hope this helps your decision to get one of these little guys; mine is going in a display box on my mantle when I'm done fixing him up. Laters bro!:)

Does your paint pen dry without being tacky on the vinyl?
Yeah, just abit but as soon as I'm done touching up I put the cap back on; plus there areas were quite small so I didn't use it for long. Did you put the gold leaf sheets on it first or are you just using the pen to the entire surface?

Almost done with Bubo; I put a thin layer of Metalic, Pearl Silver acrylic paint over the original silver base used on Bubo. I used this translucent color so the old silver paint would shimmer a bit more around any spots that might be exposed through broken layers of the silver leafing...which I still need to glue on. I'm also painting Bubos' legs gold as according to the movie version. You can see the differences in my photo from how Bubo first looked and how he looks at the moment. I should be completely done with my little buddy here in a day or so. Between playing daddy, working and trying to keep the wifey happy:love, my hobby time is very limited:lol Hope you all like the progress; I plan on making Bubo look more like metal rather rhan rubber and latex:)
Here is the updated picture:

I always thought Bubo would make a great kit. You know, with individual feathers, cast of metal, gold-plated or whatever. Make a neat little project.

Gotta thank you, Imhotep. You just gave me the idea for my next project.

Of course I'll have to go full animatronic on this one. I'm thinking flapping wings, turning head, and hooting all triggered by a motion sensor.

That sounds like one sweet project; you'll have to keep me informed of progress on that one. It'll be just one more prop I'll have to add to my on going collection!!! Cheers bud :)

Well alright Adam!...that looks sweet just the way it is. I'm already done with mine; I just need to post the pics. I'm gonna start a new, very teeny tiny project here soon that is sure to get some laughs. I'm waiting for the main piece to get here and then I'll be hand crafting the other addition that goes a long with it. Anyhow, thumbs up bro, it looks great!!!

A kit of Bubo was done many years ago...I know as it was my kit...It was reworked then recast by another company with no credit to the original, Chris and myself! to be even more technical, we had it sculpted and it was featured in HFX magazine back in 1997...maybe you'll recognize it..

Yes, I've seen this piece before. I wanted to purchase it but had no luck contacting the company; I also know the other person that resculpted or recaster Bubo as I tried buying his kit as well but he turned my offer down. After many moons of searching I found the one you see here in this thread available foe purchase; he's not exactly movie quality but after a little touching up by the right person, he can look top notch! Is your piece still around and available???

i'm not sure what state the molds are in at this point...we used to do this piece rotocast old style...tossing it into the air with a flipping motion....catching it was the trick...lol especially with resin dripping to the outside...very messy...
Will

Oh, I see. A hollow cast...genius. Light weight and clamshell like a standard style model. Would it be possible to check your molds and see if another run is possible? As you can tell from the huge response this latex Version is getting, your resin kit Bubo would be a smash hit;I know I'd want one...I'm in!!!

Okay all, here are my pics of Bubo all finished and completely gold and silver leafed. I am going to seal off the leafing with a polish so that it's protected and doesn't dull over time. A nice luster is always a good thing and being in a glass case will help out a lot. So here are the final pics...
