Original Kit bash ship `Tempest'

HOW did I miss this thread for all this time?

That is a beautiful model. Reversing the carrier hull is one of the most creative ideas I've ever seen in a model. And the way you used the Apache is a close second.

I really, REALLY want to see other ships in this fleet!

Thanks for the comment, those parts were a little adventure for me but
looks worked. :)

Yuumi's ship looks like the CVN-65 Enterprise and Space Battleship Yamato had a child together!

It looks like something a Marine would design... Seriously.

The only problem I have with it are the straight flight decks. I think even with a spacecraft carrier there's going to be a need for an angled deck for the same reasons they have on the supercarriers of today. The aircraft are just too big, too heavy, and approach too fast for an axial (straight) deck to work!

(Hypothetical World War II scenario... COULD there have been fewer casualties and aircraft accidents IF the carriers back then had angled decks??? I've seen far too much film of old prop planes smashing into each other on straight deck carriers and even plowing into the island!)

Even if there is no air in space and no significant gravity, there are still significant masses involved. They don't come to a stop without significant braking and barriers/trapping cables. You'd have the same problem as in an atmosphere but multiplied by many times even at relatively "slow" space velocities like 3,000 mph.

Thanks for the good comment.
I'm happy to know that you see this model very technically and seriously.

At the first place, I thought that it should launch the space craft from
both smaller deck facing ahead on the bottom of the ship.
That large aft deck was supposed to use for the recovery only.
So I've put the landing signal system on the edge of the aft deck.
Looks like I need a good naval technical adviser.

Thank you very much for your comment.
I hope you would enjoy expanding your imagination for this model.:thumbsup

This really satisfies my soul...it's part Galactica, part Star Destroyer, part real world carrier, and balances all of these elements beautifully. The design has a nice flow to it, and a visceral believability. Fantastic work...one can really appreciate all of the detailing you've poured into this.

My thing with straight decks is besides the obvious slow-down problems and physics is that you have the potential for a damaged plane to plow throw perfectly good planes and take out half the deck load as opposed to losing one plane (and unfortunately still the pilot).

Again, it's the World War II footage I've seen.

Even with the current safety systems in place, planes (and their pilots in them) still roll off the deck...

I read the comment from a naval officer thus: "It took us fifty years to figure out how to build operate these things without killing our guys all the time... How long do you think it'll take them [meaning the Chinese and Russians]?"

It's a slight restatement of what he said, but still applies.

Other than that, we just have to wait for technology to catch up to forcefields and a bunch of other things like fusion reactors and warp drive...

Again, it's still a nice model... Shouldn't cost more than a few trillion dollars to build the "real thing" today! :lol

I had started watching this build on another forum, but it disappeared.

Very well done! Congrats on finishing her up!:cool:thumbsup

Um, yeah... no real explanation really, not for the catfish anyway. Americans - more often rural types - can be very creative with their interjections.

One famous example is "Yosemite Sam" from the Warner Brothers cartoons, who expressed surprise or irritation with "Great Horny Toads!" (referring to Horned lizard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

Another example would be Hermes Conrad, the Jamaican accountant from the show "Futurama," who would utter a number of different interjections, usually rhyming: "Sweet gorilla of Manila!", "Sweet yeti of the Serengeti!", or "Sweet three-toed sloth of ice planet Hoth!"

Wow, I just found this thread and I am speechless. A+ work ! I agree this needs to be in a film not hiding in a garage. Anyways Id like to try something like this but the whole kit bashing thing kind of eludes me. Do you have an suggestions on where to start with something like this? What does something like this even cost? I can imagine its pretty high considering how many kits you have to buy... or maybe not so much?

BTW Yuumi-san, did the Tempest suffer any damage from the earthquake a couple months back? Or did you take steps to "Earthquake proof" it?

Frankly, this is astonishing.I cannot express just how thoroughly impressed I am. I have now fitted my keyboard with a cushion to catch my jaw. KUDOS
