Ran out of the Local clay!!! >.<

Wasn't able to do much in terms of finishing the head pre cleaning, because of this.. ran out and tried buying some similiar, or I thought it was. This clay, called NEWPLAST CLAY (from UK) is, sorry, but I thought was *****. the local clay was packaged almost similiarly, so I thought this was gonna be good as well. Not sure if it's been hot lately (28°C average Summer) or it's been made for UK weather (but NZ has pretty similiar weather), but it's sticky as hell when you've been kneading it long enough..ugh

Thing is, I've spread it all over the back part of the head and the dome spikes are made out of this, and I can't 'clean' it and don't want to scrape it off.. :(

The direction I think I'll probably go forward with is once I get my hands on some of the local clay again, is put it over the icky one...supplier told me he'll get a new batch in about 3 weeks >.< unless I find it somewhere else..

So while waiting, made the fangs and the mandibles, so a pretty productive weekend as a whole! Realized I still had some small amount off white Fimo oven baked clay left. As you can see from the fang and mandible test, the mandibles IMO is too extended out, especially the lower one, so will try and fix that the next few days..

Anyways, that's it for now, will update again soon!

My clay..hasn’t arrived yet..said another 2 weeks >.<

Couldn’t wait any longer, so...got another kind from another supplier who runs her sculpting supplies store from home as she’s a full time sculptor herself. And they arrived last night! Had only 3 hours of sleep, but it was all worth it! Great to be back and working on Isu’bomo again!

Only thing is, the new clay that I got has only got Tan as a colour, so I’m basically sort of ‘re-doing’ everything..but I think it’s good

because the head itself has ‘grown’ a bit more (Nic said it looks small ;P) and I was gonna add more for details, so it’s never really time wasted. Bit slow though as I want to cover everything gray to tan. I like it too, shows me closer the colour of what it’s gonna be like when I paint it. Anyway, here’s where I got to so far..will try to do more later! Adding more details of course and texture..

Just wanted to let peeps know the dream is very much alive, just hit a little snag with supplies, but all good now! :D

*side note, buying the clay from the supplier has I believe, opened up a door of opportunity. She was quite excited when I showed her what I was doing, and she supplies some moulding stuff as well, so she might be able to help with the casting and all that too, hopefully, I can get some sort of unofficial ‘apprenticeship’ under her..always room for improvement I always say!

Just posting an update :)

Finally covered up almost all of the grey clay, just gonna do more texturizing and 'cleaning up :D
(had to add in some 'webs' in between the dome spikes to accomodate more dreadlock holes, better spacing I mean..didn't really want to, but didn't turn half as bad I expected them to..Will just probably have to elongate the spikes even more so)

Speaking of dreads, if my calculations are correct, with the way I'm going with the holes placing, I'll have approx around 60-64 strands, does that seem little? Cheers!
