One of the stupidest thing's Disney did with TRON.....

Watched it in 1080 last night at a friends house. It was our pre tron warmup.

I still LOVE the movie. And was amazed at how good it looked (comparitavely to the original release) the colors were brighter and more vibrant. You could actually see the sentry gaurds faces. (normally they just looked like black voids under the hoods or whatever. And there was actually color to the peoples faces instead of looking black and white. (not much, but there were hints of skin tone and in some parts it was clearer than others.)

My only downside feeling after watching it was how much I loved the original score and wished Daft Punk could have thrown in just a few hints of that in the new OST. :(

I just don't get how people find the effects "laughable". Maybe none of those people are artists? I love the look of the film. I can say with full certainty that the look of the original tron is one of a kind.

I think if they did just a touch more work and maybe added just little touches to some of the more bland backdrops in a few scenes... maybe more people would "get it"?

I don't know, but I still love the simplicity of the story and the anologys of our real world that are rampant throughout. (it boggles my mind that a LOT of people think the story is confusing and just random crap thrown together, it's actually very simple and old fashioned goodness that is missing from most modern films)

Don't listen to those people Ken, the movie was a milestone, without Tron, there wouldn't be any CGI movies we see today. Still there are those questions asked in Tron, which are still up to date now, who owns information, freedom of information, who controls it and who owns it....

I did not think this was a hard to get DVD ,20th anniverasary and special eddition both availabel on Amazon UK for abour £20.

These are the same folks who hate anything over 25 years old and like to bash it. Its just a sign of the loss of respect for movie history.

Amen. I would talk about some movies from when I was growing up, none of my classmates knew what I was talking about. Even more, I talked to a few of my classmates about John Carpenter's work, and some of them had no idea who the heck he was!

The sad thing is that up to a point i was the same way they were then I hit 25-30 and suddenly I care about all this stuff lol. I can only hope that happens to folks too. That said there are alot of kids who do like this stuff but have no place to talk about it because they get beat up for it. I know when i was in animation class for computer animation Tron and Last Starfighter were the two CGI movies folks mentioned all the time.

Last Thursday night, we put on Back to the Future, only to have a friend ask why we were watching it, 'cause "it's old school."

Madness.

Yeah they just didn't make em back then like they do now... :rolleyes

I've had both since they came out. I just checked amazon and they are selling for ridiculous prices now. 168.00???? Thats just crazy. :rolleyes

Just got back from watching the free preview of "Tron Legacy." And I have to say, the film is truly worthy of carrying on the "Tron" name and story. With the exception of a couple of flashbacks that looked like they were through a computer screen with the combination of 3-D glasses, which resulted in a couple of the flashbacks looking slightly blurry, the film, overall was awesome.

I had to end up watching the original on Youtube, fortunately somebody uploaded a good copy in several parts.

It's a good thing I have 2 copies of the Anniversary disc. Disney is just showing how gutless they are if they are holding off releasing TRON on blu-ray because of some test audience. I agree with one of the commentators on the DVD that TRON is a rare work of art.

It could be possible that they are waiting to release it some time after "Legacy" hits theaters to see if there's enough interest with it. I mean for the original "Gone in 60 Seconds", it was released on DVD months after the remake hit and left the theaters (the remake hit the theaters in June. The original's DVD hit the market in November). In fact, the original's DVD was released a month before the remake's DVD. So, it could be possible that they are waiting to see how well "Legacy" does in the theater and then begin on working on a re-release, possibly even releasing it at the same time as "Legacy" hit the DVD market as well.

All I can say is this: I frakkin' called it right! I told you they could have been waiting for the film to reach DVD before releasing the original: Tron Legacy DVD, Blu-Ray, 3D Blu-Ray Release Date + 1982 Tron Blu-Ray Details | Box Office Blog - Weekend Box Office Reports, Predictions & more

Got Tron when it came out on dvd. Watching it with my kids now. They spotted the pacman on the wall right off the bat!

They are only holding it now so they can release a super special edition in a month or two. And then a boxed set a month or two after that with Legacy.

3-D Blu Ray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh man well I was on the fence about a 3-D TV but now I guess I will have to get one

Great quote from a review of the new Green Hornet movie:

"Someday — someday soon, hopefully — 3-D will be exposed for the sham that it is. We will all realize that, for the vast majority of films, shooting in or converting to 3-D offers absolutely nothing from a narrative standpoint, and very little visually; all this gimmick really adds is money at the box office through higher ticket prices. And, perhaps, the sanctity of the art form might be restored once more."

I think the 3D in Legacy ads more to its story and structure than most other films I've seen in 3D. Starting in 2D and making the transition into 3D when Sam is transported to the Grid was an effective, legitimate use of the technology.

People are either complaining that the 3D "added nothing" or that there wasn't enough of it used.
Did anyone hem and haw like this when the Wizard of Oz came out?
