One of the stupidest thing's Disney did with TRON.....

I don't know what kind of content rules you have for him, but I was delighted to find out that the movie earned a PG rating. Should increase the number of families attending substantially. :thumbsup

At his age, scary imagery, language, sex, gory violence are the red flags. PG can mean different things sometimes, so I usually preview or get feedback from other family members or parents about content.

For me, it has to pass the "it doesn't suck" test from friends who've seen it.

I didn't' think the 20th anniversary was that hard to find. I got mine at walmart when if first came out. it was pricey but i'd put it and like 5 other movies in layaway. i wish everyone young was that kind when it came to watching the original.

As has been mentioned, they don't want to scare off youngsters who wouldn't like the original. I think they are betting on more sales from people buying the original in conjunction with Legacy so they will have the complete set. I would bet on a box set.

A box set would make more sense plus they could get more interviews and such. What annoys me is that Alan's wife (gf in the original) isn't in the sequel even though Disney had her making appearances as Lora and Bruce as Alan at events.

I wasn't willing to pay $80-$150+ on Ebay for it.

Wah-wah-we-wah! :confused

I just had a look... Someone has an auction going with a reserve... and a Buy it now of $250.00! :eek

I had no idea these were going for that much! Glad I bought my 20th Ann. edition when I did.

Wow! :confused

Glad I downloaded the 20th Ann when I did :lol

I picked up the 20th anniversary edition a few months back simply to swot up before I go see Legacy. Seems I managed to pick up one of the last ones before the frenzy kicked in as it only cost me £3.98.:love:thumbsup
The movie is dated as hell and isn't the best by any stretch of the imagination but the concept is good and I'm really looking forward to Legacy because if this.

Same boat here. My wife and 2 boys never saw the first Tron. So I figured some TV stations would be running it again. I found nothing on the TV schedule. So I go online expecting it to be available for around $10. Amazon.com has it for $140...

It's kinda hard to explain the new movie without them knowing what happened in the first movie.

I agree with a previous post in this thread, when studios make a move that stupid I say it's an open pass for Bittorrent, guilt free. I have a copy of the movie, but even if I didn't I'd find a way to watch it before going to see Legacy.

I just did a search for TRON on my sat box. It has the schedule 10-14 days out and tron wasn't on it at all other than a trailer for the new one and a couple 15 minute behind the scenes stuff.

At least get the original out on the disney channel or something to generate some buzz and follow it with the trailer for part 2 or something.

im guessing they are trying to stop people from seeing it because theyll see the old one and think its "boring" and not go see the new one. Im sure once Legacy is out, a new issue of the dvd will be too..

What?! The 20th anniversary edition is so precious and sold out? I didn't knew that - got mine when it was out...

A friend at the mouse house told me a few months ago that they were discontinuing it , so I picked it up on Amazon for a bargain when they were selling it.

Whoa! I didn't know this was going on. I haven';t even looked to see if I have it.
I probably do... on Laserdisc!

Now I have to go look.
I'm sure they will put them out after the movie has made it's money and probably a multi-disc Blu Ray release.

It could be possible that they are waiting to release it some time after "Legacy" hits theaters to see if there's enough interest with it. I mean for the original "Gone in 60 Seconds", it was released on DVD months after the remake hit and left the theaters (the remake hit the theaters in June. The original's DVD hit the market in November). In fact, the original's DVD was released a month before the remake's DVD. So, it could be possible that they are waiting to see how well "Legacy" does in the theater and then begin on working on a re-release, possibly even releasing it at the same time as "Legacy" hit the DVD market as well.

Watched it in 1080 last night at a friends house. It was our pre tron warmup.

I still LOVE the movie. And was amazed at how good it looked (comparitavely to the original release) the colors were brighter and more vibrant. You could actually see the sentry gaurds faces. (normally they just looked like black voids under the hoods or whatever. And there was actually color to the peoples faces instead of looking black and white. (not much, but there were hints of skin tone and in some parts it was clearer than others.)

My only downside feeling after watching it was how much I loved the original score and wished Daft Punk could have thrown in just a few hints of that in the new OST. :(

I just don't get how people find the effects "laughable". Maybe none of those people are artists? I love the look of the film. I can say with full certainty that the look of the original tron is one of a kind.

I think if they did just a touch more work and maybe added just little touches to some of the more bland backdrops in a few scenes... maybe more people would "get it"?

I don't know, but I still love the simplicity of the story and the anologys of our real world that are rampant throughout. (it boggles my mind that a LOT of people think the story is confusing and just random crap thrown together, it's actually very simple and old fashioned goodness that is missing from most modern films)

Couldn't agree more OldKen. I've shown the original to my son a number of times and he loves it. We went to the pre-view night and he can't wait to see Legacy next weekend.

I had the Laserdisc box set years ago too. Man, when that thing came out it was one of the best looking video transfers ever! I'm pretty sure the 20th Anniversary DVD is from the same master (the extra content is pretty much the same too).

Can't hit blu-ray fast enough for me!

Sooooo pissed I never really bought the film. Just used to watch it on my cousins VHS copy. And now from what I hear he lost it.
