Looking at this awesome concept watch reminds me of the concept Aki's watch from Final Fantasy by Seiko...

I found these online in 2008. Pretty cool stuff. Ahead of its time a bit.

that's why i avoid places like yankodesign. i find their site to be very frustrating because they never materialise to an actual product that is readily available for casual consumer purchase. if it does, then that's when i would re-consider.

I don't see how the first post's watch could ever be made due to the lack of power available. The second watch in post #8 is being made, but the material is cheap plastic and has to be charged every day--it'll run something like 5-8 hours before needing a recharge.
Nice concepts, but with our limited battery technology, they're not practical. Someone can make these into phone apps, though, even though that's not as good.
The closest practical watch I've seen is this:
