Oil Based Clay

Hi all, I've scoured the boards for an answer, but am at a loss. I'm currently sculpting a Dr. Doom mask, and the clay I'm using (Roma Plastilina #2) doesn't seem hard enought to really give me some nice, glass smooth sides. Do any of your sculptors who've made machined like sculpts (Iron Man, etc.) have any advice for a good clay? Thanks!!

Are you using metal tools to smooth the sculpt? They will do more for you than your fingers.

If #2 is a little soft, try putting it into the refrigerator and let it harden a bit.

Since I am not too great of a sculptor, I make a waste mold and cast in a harder material such as stone or fiberglass. Those can be sanded and puttied to any smoothness.
