Available on the album honky château

She packed my bags last night pre-flight
Zero hour nine a.m.
And i'm gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much i miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight

And i think it's gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think i am at home
Oh no no no i'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you did
And all this science i don't understand
It's just my job five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man

And i think it's gonna be a long long time...

Ok, well, I am more like the prop man to the rocket man.
Here is the project I have been working on for a friend's SP costume.
A Steampunk Rocket Pack!
You will notice what look like spots of green tarnish on the pack. I figured if this thing was steam powered the bits of water spray would leave droplets on the body thus causing a specked look.

The pack serves a second function as well. It hides a "Camel pack" That can be filled with liquid to be enjoyed via the black tube you see over my shoulder.

Too cool, and the typical fantastic paintjob we've come to expect with your projects ;) :lol

Care to share construction details--I'm guessing plastic 5 gallon buckets maybe?

thats cool, but for some reason it makes me think of the back pack adam sandler wore in water boy! thats some highquality H20!

LOL! Nice use of the Gatorade Rain Bottle. The only reason I noticed it is that I have one sitting in my office left over...and was staring at it today thinking "that's a cool shaped bottle, I wonder what I could make out of that"
Good job!

i LOVE the look of this thing!
that being said, please take this as constructive and not as me bashing it..
it just doesnt scream "rocket pack" to me....
but anyhow, its a great thing, and wonderful job!

Well I started with a 3/12 and a 5 gal paint buckets added a bowl to the top and used a paper towel holder for the brackets to hold the thrusters.

Measured and cut the space for the Camel Pack:

Added the thrusters, ballast and rivets. Marked out the lines for the panels of the body. The thrusters are NOS energy drink bottles with the bottoms cut off and turned inside the body. The ballast is a Gatoraid bottle. The rivets are plastic craft store googlie eyes. A small section of red plastic tube for the ballast post:

Add the base coat and add the last few parts. Tubes and pressure gauge:

Then the final painting was done as I have posted in past posts. I like to keep things simple.

Looks excellent and a nice paintjob. I'm a big fan of the aged bronze/copper/brass look. Had to laugh at the use of googlie eyes as rivets! Did you ever think of using drawing pins? I mean, they're already brass and bound to be cheaper than googlie eyes and won't rattle if you shake em ;)
The only thing it needs really is some kind of flared nozzle on the thrusters or maybe one honkin great big one on the main tank.
Great job!

Reminds me of the words of Red Green, "I don't know what that is, but make sure I'm out of the building before you turn it on!" :lol
Nice
:thumbsup

Well it's about $2.50 for 100 drawing pins (and they would work perfect) but it is only 99 cents for 100 large googlie eyes. I was afraid they would rattle as well but if you buy the 99 cent ones the black pat tends to stick in place. Bad for making googlie eye pom pom monsters but not a bad deal for rivets. I was thinking about the flared nozzles but then I remembered that the guy who will have to wear it will be walking around a crowded Sci-fi con. That is also part of the reason I went with smaller thrusters than I had wanted. Last thing we wanted was for him to get in a tight spot and some drunk con geek ripping off part of his pack. Sounds silly I know but I have lost parts of my Proton Pack because of just this thing.
