Official V3 Nike MAG Replica Thread - V3 Discussion Thread

To add to this, I actually don't have a problem with any good replica. I am into the older shoes of the late 1980s and early 1990s like Jordan 8 and even Huarache was cool looking shoe. Occasionally, NIKE will do retro releases of these shoes, but once they run is over, that is the end. These replica companies just keep making them if there is a dollar to be had. Then of course, come special releases like the MAGs, Boosts and other, expensive shoes that most people simply could not afford.

I'm of the opposite view point, Nike have done hundreds if not thousands of retro releases over the years, nearly every decent shoe they ever created has been rereleased. Many of which can still be found on eBay or other legitimate sites in the majority of sizes for around the same price if not lower in some cases like the Nike Air Pressure, which I know you love.

The fact that the replicas are being sold at roughly the original price Nike sold the authentic versions for bothers me slightly. In the case of the Mags I can totally understand a replication & wanting to wear them for nostalgia & novelty value. However, Jordans or other standard footwear? ...I'd rather give the replicas a miss if I couldn't afford or source the genuine article.

I guess it's just a mindset, but I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing a fake Rolex & appear to have status or replica Jordans because I couldn't manage to find or fund originals. I'd rather take a Casio, some standard Air Force 1s & walk around without a masquerade.

Yeah true, but if you went looking for a Jordan XX right now, the only place you will find one is a from a rep store. NIKE did their original and the re-release and if you missed both of them, too bad, so sad.

I agree and why I don't actually own any other reps right now apart from the MAGs. I have two NIKE factory outlets not far from me and on a good day, you can score a genuine NIKE product for much less than RRP, but they are at least 6 months old (I think these are basically the stock from shops that didn't sell at retail).

I found a tag on the inside of my latest set was listed at $240 but after discounts and the "race sale" (they run time limited specials during the day to make people rush to buy), I got them for $70. My Jordan XXs were listed at $280, I paid $100.Jordan VIII ended up costing me $110. Even the REP sites can't match those prices, but you can't get any of those shoes right now, so if you really want them, you pay a higher price. Something called supply and demand.

Yeah, I'm aware of what supply & demand is... The Jordan XX you mention are still out there, you just need to know where to look, have 'hook-ups' & be prepared to spend a pretty penny if you desperately want them. Which brings me back to the fact that if I wasn't prepared to pay those prices or couldn't afford to, I'd rather go without than wear replicas, again, a difference of opinion.

The Mags however, fall into a different category as far as I'm concerned, being a prop first & foremost, then actual wearable footwear. Speaking of which, a friend of mine moments ago sent me a photo of a guy wandering around doing his grocery shopping in V2's... I'd forgotten how awful they look unmodifed & compared to the V3!

When I bought those XXs, there was two main colour ways. The reps come in more than what was available at the time. And I am not prepared to pay "a pretty penny" for a shoe like that.

Yeah they are special for being a prop first like the Reebok ALIEN Stompers. The ONLY Jordan that might fall into a similar class is the ones worn by MJ in that Looney Toons thing.

I haven't been on here in a while due to work getting out of hand. Are there any note worthy developments that have happened in the past two months?

Not really. All that has been added to the first two posts.

KMG79, great post. What size are they? Will you wear them or just display them?

They are 9.5. I don't ever plan on wearing them. Just going to keep them in my display case for movie props. Soon as I opened the box, my kid ripped the ITS ABOUT TIME sleeve. Other than that, everything was great!

And the batteries are gone!
I have filled the cavity with 10mm EVA foam.

I want to see if it is possible to attach the protection circuit to another battery. If not, then I won't even bother to attempt a repair.

EL wires broke on both shoes. The EL wire tape I have should allow a good join as well as a more flexible connection to the panel itself.
