Official Star Trek Phaser Thread

Hello all.

Here are some of my phasers...

I'm getting ready to mod a couple more AA's, and if anyone is interested I'm planning on doing a step-by-step tutorial on it.

First off, a Vacform Weapon. Note the lack of P1 cradle rails:

as cool a prop as they are, they seem to lack, that 'special inspiration' the originals had.

Well the TOS props are special. :D

They are eerily perfect... like high-end camera equipment or something. They exude authority.

They are a tribute to the genius of designer Matt Jefferies, artist Wah Chang and the Desilu propmen who built and maintained them. :sleep

First off, very nice phasers. :eek

I am certainly interested. I'm not a big Trek fan myself, but I have a few buddies who are "Big Time Trekkies" and I've been thinking that some Trek props would make nice birthday/Christmas gifts for them. The items at the Roddenberry.com are a "little" out of my price range, and out-of-the-box Art Asylum and Playmates units are too cheap to make nice gifts. However, some of these toys with some after-market modifications and some effort on my part just might be the trick. I'm looking for all the information I can get. When your tutorial is read please post it up.

Looking forward to it. :thumbsup

A rebuilt Art Asylum with metal parts can be the equal of a Rodd.com. :thumbsup

They don't make it easy for you tho...

No problemo, Red Two.

I'm lazy and cheap (or, energy-efficient and frugal) so the mods won't be too awfully expensive or difficult.

With the exception of the metal nozzle and side knob, everything else is readily available.

Hobbytown USA or equivalent: Styrene sheet, rod, and half-round rod, Novus #2 plastic polish, Tamiya Silver Leaf spray paint, Tamiya Masking Tape

Lowes or Home Depot: Brass 'lamp nuts' and screws

Electronics supply store: Small washers, hi-brite LEDs, microswitch

Wal-Mart: Loctite thin super glue, Omega brand dark gray primer, Rustoleum Dark Bronze Metallic, Duplicolor SUV clearcoat, Brasso, turtle wax, plain old XActo knife, wet/dry sandpaper (get the assortment pack)

Sundry items:

You'll need to ask around to find a metal nozzle and side knob.

I AM KIROK has some killer midgrade-style fins, and that's what I'll be using

Stingray knows where to find the coolest pager vib motors....

A Dremel, with a fiber cutoff wheel and sanding drum is a must.

Cool. That's based on the Rick Sternbach TNG concept drawings, right?

I don't think I've ever seen someone try one of those before. Neat.

:)

That is so true.

USSCassiopeia, I'd be super interested in your step-by-step mods to an AA Phaser as I have 6 of these with metal nozzles. Can you do a pdf of it to email to me?

Tom
