An open letter to involved parties at Corgi International Limited and Lucasfilm Ltd.

Dear ladies and gentlemen of Corgi International Limited and Lucasfilm Ltd.:

In mid May 2007, both Corgi International Limited and Lucasfilm Ltd. announced their withdrawal from procedures to secure a licensing agreement for Star Wars products effective January 1, 2008.

We, the fans and customers of Master Replicas, are both shocked and disheartened by this news. Since 2002, Master Replicas has introduced the Star Wars fan community to a myriad of “high end collectibles”, ranging from authentically detailed movie prop replicas, to the highly popular “Force FX” lightsabers.

More importantly, Master Replicas introduced the collecting community to a new level of authenticity and quality that had been unmatched by any other Star Wars licensee. This attention to detail has forged a longstanding trust between collectors and Master Replicas.

It’s because of this trust that we, the below signed, wish to sincerely request that both Corgi and Lucasfilm reconsider licensing negotiations in the hope of saving a very strong Star Wars product brand: Master Replicas. An extension of the Star Wars license would mean more new and exciting collectibles for the most loyal fans of Star Wars.

Please sign this petition to help Master Replicas keep the Star wars license.
No one makes high quality Star wars products like Master Replicas.
This petition is to encourage both company's to come to a acceptable agreement in order to continue the high quality line of Star wars replicas they have made for the last 5 years, and to continue putting out more replicas that are requested by us the fans

Please sign this and tell every Star wars fan you know to sign so we the fan can help Master Replicas and Lucas (LFL)come to a reasonable amount to renew the Star Wars license.

Petition to LFL and Corgi to Reopen License Negotiations

You're all well aware of the news by now. Master Replicas will loose its Star Wars license effective January 1, 2008. If you're a fan or collector of MR's merchandise, then perhaps you'd be willing to voice your concern. The following link is a petition to LFL and Corgi to reopen licensing negotiations in hopes that perhaps the two can come to an equitable agreement.

Thanks guys!

Actually, I am against it. MR has had some major screw ups in the quality control with the Star Wars franchise. If they are not willing to put quality first, I would rather some one else had a chance at it that will.

Business is Business! Let it go. Someone will eventually pick it up again.

There is another petition thread already on the board as well - that links a different one. If the petition folks really want numbers they (whomever is doing the various petitions) should work on combining them. Seems more effective to me.:)

Re: Petition to LFL and Corgi to Reopen License Negotiations

I have to say they've had their chance and now hopefully someone who can meet decent release schedules will pick up the licence.

Re: Petition to LFL and Corgi to Reopen License Negotiations

Yeah, I'm actually against it. I can understand if it was a negotiating tactic but doing it right before C4, cancelling their booth when they aren't gone yet, and leaving a lot of fans in doubt about pieces that they want in not excusable... Add that on top of the QC issues and I'm ready for a new SW license holder.

Re: Petition to LFL and Corgi to Reopen License Negotiations

I would personally just as soon see the license go to someone else.

MR no longer needs Star Wars, and Star Wars no longer needs MR.

Yep! Time for some new blood and a change!

Re: Petition to LFL and Corgi to Reopen License Negotiations

Let's just say I'd hate for another company to pick up the license and start making the same lightsabers over and over and over and over again...

I just hope the new company realizes they can sell a truck-load more lightsabers at $250 a pop instead of $350.......................but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Re: Petition to LFL and Corgi to Reopen License Negotiations

I don't think that would happen, just because the market did not bear it that well the first time. A company would have to look to other items or do a lower priced replica line to repeat what MR has popped out. So it should go without saying that you won't see a repeat over and over again.

I am interested to see the potential that the new franchise shows bring to the table. This franchise has a long and strong life ahead of it.

Keep in mind though that there's no guarantee that whoever gets the license after MR will do any better.

If their products suck or are inaccurate, they will go under before they bother making their second batch.

So-called prop 'hobbyists' these days want perfect accuracy for a pauper's price. If expectations aren't met, licensing money will go wasted, and the hobby will go back underground where it might or might not actually belong.

It was more fun when you had to find an actual, antique Graflex flashgun if you wanted to have a Luke sabre... Hell, these days you can walk into Wal-Mart and buy a rack of them. What's the point...?

You mean like Hasbro and Sideshow?

You know, Hasbro used to make the 12" figures......they made ANH Leia and 'Old Ben' and ROTJ Luke........and now Sideshow makes ANH Leia and 'Old Ben' and ROTJ Luke.

Both companies make plastic 'dolls' with cloth clothes, so what makes them different? Sideshow saw a chance to make the same old thing, but better and more accurate. The market agreed.

Besides, any new company with the license to make lightsabers would be stupid not to remake the ANH Obi-Wan Kenobi saber.

The AFBB was limited to what, 500 units? Make a more accurate version of that bright clean saber and we would all be looking at our MR versions like we looked at our ICONS when MR's version came out.

And make a new ANH Obi but with the black grenade, black balance pipe, no screws or wires, and 2 transistor washers...............everyone would buy the hell out of that lightsaber.

If only that were true.

The point is, those that want a real Graflex, can still go through the effort of aquiring one (and feel better about themselves for it?), but the casual fan that wants something a little better than the average toy to proudly display on their shelf, can get one too.

Really?:confused

Oh yeah, sure you can...if you're referring to Hasbro sabers.:rolleyes

I don't know of too many people that would be willing to settle for a Hasbro over getting either a Graflex or Parks replica Graflex on Ebay...

And MR's products must not have sucked too bad considering that they didn't seem to have much trouble selling their products. As for their prices, most of the well made unlicensed replicas weren't exactly cheap either as I recall.

If you don't want to sign the petition, then that's your choice.
